Below is a screenshot of an Intel Q9550 on an Asus P5Q Deluxe (BIOS 0803), cooling is by a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme with Scythe S-Flex 20mm 1600rpm fan, PC Case, is a Li Lian PC-60 with 4 x 80mm fans + Antec 80mm fan onto ram and nb, even at stock clocks (2.83GHz) the temps are only 2-3C lower (ambient room temp 22-24c). Heatsink has already been re-seated, am using Artic Silver 5 paste.

I reckon that these temps are a bit on the high side, would that be a correct conclusion?

What temp does a Q9550 throttle at?

In this shot Prime95 had been running about 21mins with no errors.

In my experience (limited to my q9300 and reading forums) the 45nm quads do run hot.

My temps are very similar at 3.48 Ghz.

I've reseated a few times with a few different coolers and always end up with roughly about the same temperatures.

Also the temperature sensors on the 45nm cpu's are rubbish apparently, so don't take the temperatures readings with the software as gospel.

There's not much else you can do, as you have reseated your cpu cooler, so try not to worry.

Your temperatures shoud be fine.

Just my opinion though, maybe someone more enlightened has a different opinion.

That seems way too high, my Q9550 is currently at 3.8 and the highest temp mine has gone while being primed is 64c

This is a screen shot of Prime95 having run for 20 mins @ stock clocks, ie. 2.85GHz with 1.225v

Are these temps higher than what should be expected, or about right?

If higher than normal, would an RMA be advisable?

Thanks.

The top temps are a tad high, but tbh they're not bad far a quad at 4ghz on air.

You say you have a TRUE, is the base flat or convex? Does it need lapping?

I would think lapping both cpu and heatsink base would help things, but to be honest not really wanting to embark on such a venture at present, although it is something I could do in future...

Cannot comment on temps @4ghz as have never run at that speed.

At standard would expect 10c less approx with my combo of q9550+Tuniq @mid speed.

But your volts look a tad high !! I appreciate that you may need 1.3v + for 4ghz but 1.2+ for standard?

Am running 3.4 with 1.1875 with no problems & max temps of 53/52/52/49.

Give it a go at bog standard @ lower v and see ?

Running @ 3.4GHz with 1.1875v and still the temps are 10c higher than yours....it just seems that this chip runs a bit hotter than some others....

thats just the way thing work, its luck of the draw sometimes.

Also it is a C1 stepping, my E0 would be a lot cooler Im sure but its currently under water so thats an unfair comparison.

the temps are 10c higher than yours

Am using RealTemp so yours runs approx 5/6c higher - so not so far off.

Also my comp is housed in a Stacker case (1st Vari.) wth 2 front 120 + middle board cooling fan+rear exhaust 120+ ceiling 80 exhaust. So the case is very well ventilated - stood on laminate floor near , often, open window..

May be the 5c is case cooling difference ? Even if not not too shabby anyway :)

My vdrop/droop is much worse than yours so you might get away with 1.165v.
Running per bios 1.1875 and per cpu-z 1.168 :(

If you're aiming for 4Ghz maybe you should try a fan that pushes more air? I've never had great temps under load with the S-Flex, although mine is the slightly slower 1200rpm one.
