+2 i've read that on numerous sites, no V sync and triple buffering justs hogs more card memory for no return, I have found that using V sync and triple buffering results in a very minor and usually unoticable performance hit for the considerable benefits of no tearing or shearing
I guess it's personal preferance and on some games it's less noticable but on others it gets very noticable when panning the camera around, enabling triple buffering pretty much completly negates the big performance hit you take when using v sync
The only downside is you cannot turn it on in your cards drivers, the tab on nvidia cards enable triple buffering only works in open GL, same with ATI you need to use a program called D3D overider to force triple buffering in direct 3D, you can get the programe with rivatuner 2.10 or just google it
The only other thing you need is enough video card memory, if your card has 512 meg or more you should be fine
