The more I see of the new 'fall update' dashboard, the more I hate it

Seriously, how long do you guys spend in the dash??? The extra features we are getting more than make up for it if you don't like the "look" of the new dashboard.

Major Nelson let loose on his latest podcast that the upcoming Dashboard update for the Xbox 360 will be entirely optional. Well, you’ll most likely still have to download it, but you can continue to use the old blades system and even forgo the new Miis Avatars and stick with your Gamerpic. Oh, and you can do it all in game.

Here are the words straight from the Major’s mouth:

“The Dashboard as you know it today, in other words the ‘blades’; Games, Live, Media and System, We’ve taken those blades and moved them to the Guide. Every single function that you can do today in the Dashboard you are going to be able to do in the New Xbox Experience in the Guide.

When you press the Guide button on the Xbox 360 controller, the new Guide will come up and you’re going to be able to do everything in there. You’re going to be able to contextually browse Marketplace, did you know that? So when you have Gears of War 2 of Halo 3 in there you’re going to be able to go straight to that section. And if you don’t like the avatars, they’re not required. You can use your Gamer Pictures.”

While he said that the update is mandatory to play on Xbox Live. Plus you can use the blades system through the guide button but that's not the same as having the dashboard with the blades system.

While I'm happy for the new dash, it is mandatory and passing it off by saying they still have the old dash in the guide is bull. The guide will have the blades/tabs, it's not the same as the current dash.

Dashboard is the dashboard is the dashboard. It's the main hub for when you're using your 360 for anything but games - which happens a lot, being the media center that it is. It's like driving a Mercedes with a pink fuzzy dashboard. It may not matter because you're having to keep your eyes on the road, but it's still an eyesore that most would want to get rid of. Personally I don't think it's much of a problem anymore since you can change to have the old one or the new one with and without the fake cheap nasty Mii knockoffs totally devoid of any creativity stemming from imaginative bankrupty. Yes I dislike them that much. I hope MS never pulls off a stunt like that again and I'm willing to bet they bent over and made them optional once they finally realize just how stupid the idea and design was, owing to popular backlash.

We already have one Wii we don't need another. Stick to what you're good at MS.

I dont think you understand - the update isnt optional full stop. However when you hit the guide button it will look like the current blade system. You are still using the new dashboard, but the guide button was designed around the old dashboard.

You cant "continue to use the old blades system", but they are present in the update if you see what I mean

LOVE the new dash! Especially the little police cars!

Hate the current blade system, can never find what I am looking for.

Makes Nintendo's effort look like poop.

I love the look of the new Dash. I just hope I can unlock rare costumes for my avatar by getting 1000/1000 in some games. I'm going to make my Avatar look like a complete plonka. :D

For me its full install of games and hopefully the end of the DVD drive being louder than my washing machine,

Is it me or was the first blade system nice and simple then it was updated a while back and hid everything away and now full of advertising everywhere,

Looks as stated in other posts they are trying to be a wii which is a shame as its a different type of console,

So when in game and you press guide, it is going to bring this whole new dash on screen and not just the quick blade??

That's going to be a PITA for the games that don't pause when you press the guide button. Sometimes i even like bringing up that blade when the game is running the background to have a look who has signed on etc, so no longer will we be able to keep an eye on the game whilst looking at your friends list? i.e. if you are in a lobby in COD4 bored waiting for it to start, you can't bring up with wee blade and check messages/friends etc and still be ready when they game kicks off.

I wont like that :(

It's not trash.

I LOVE the new look. I hate the old dashboard, it's clunky and far too childish. It looks ugly.

The new one looks clean with massive user interface improvements. I can't wait.

The old dashboard is childish what the **** are you smoking? The new one looks childish.

I do like the simple look of it, just not the avatars.

But so long as it's easy to navigate and loads quickly I guess I don't care what it looks like at the end of the day.
