..Wipeout®HD Photo thread..

If it can't then yes, I take back what I've said. I see no reason why the 360 couldn't do it in 720p @ 60fps though.

1080p is a completely different kettle of fish from 720p, iirc it is over double the number of pixels which puts a HUGE amount of extra strain on the GPU. A good example of this would be Crysis: Warhead, that will run flawlessly on my PC at 720p, if i up it to 1080p my frame rate plummets.

I'm not saying the 360 isn't capable of this, there is no way any of us will actually know, but what i am saying is no one, ever, in the history of consoles has produced graphics this good running at a solid 60FPS in 1080p. Surely everyone must agree with that?

People seem to forget the excellent scaler chip in the 360...

Scaling to 1080p and rendering at 1080p are a completely different kettle of fish.

[EDIT] Taking the previous article into account, even though the resolution does drop in busy scenes, the bottom end is still 50% higher than 720p

What i mean is the scaler chip does a very good job when displaying at 1080p Looked really good!

photo mode does enhance the graphics but not that much the game really does look that good and at 60fps its quite impressive this game along with gt5p really does show the ps3 can deliver some outstanding graphics that the 360 imo cant match

Since when did you transform from an ardent 360-or-die fanboy into a PS3 one?

Ridge Racer 7 was 60fps at 1080P .,,,, No-one ranted and raved about how nice that looked... I thought it looked the bomb !

Can we keep the focus on photographs and the game please and not stray off talking about other systems and other games?

so because you praise a game it makes you a fanboy?
this is why this forum cant handle debate

No because your opinions swing more wildly than my grandma's ****. You have proved many times in the past you can't handle debates and logic to save your life so I dunno why you're pointing that line at me.

nice family forum this is too
would you much rather put a good game down because its not on the 360?
quite some attitude you have there and obviously trolling as you have nothing to add to the topic but personal attacks

I haven't derided the game, nor have I made any comments about it not being on the 360. I don't have time for this 'console allegience' malarky you are taking very seriously so far. It's pretty rich of you to call me a troll, seeing as you're guilty of that 90% of the time, Mister I-got-suspended-not-long-ago. You have some serious practice ahead of you.

In the meanwhile I'll be posting my own shots of WHD soon, it's a pretty good game. I can honestly say I cannot tell it's using the dynamic framebuffer effect, so that's a neat and subtle effect that I hope will be used more in games. It's a Sony Dev studio so maybe this means they will share that concept and technology with the other PS3 developers.

wow those pics actually look like hand painted plastic models, i.e real life objects photo'd but not like real racing craft...

im debating whether to buy, i have a 1080 40" samsung tv!?

What does PS1 and PS2 have to do with anything?

The PS3 architecture is completely different.

I wasn't meant to be inflammatory..

The PS1/2 are consoles with vastly differing architectures to the PC, I think has forced these developers to approach things completely differently and have often had to think outside the box to develop game engines for them. Although 'different', the PS3 architecture is yet again completely different to a PC, and once again the developers are having to think outside the box and try new techniques, it would seem from the results of their efforts that they are once again using techniques that aren't the 'norm' on PC development yet work very well on the PS3.

On the 360, it would seem first parties largely using 'normal' techniques that are developed from years of PC games design. Halo / Gears of War etc are all cross platform (360/PC). I think the fact the 360 does OK with this approach has led to games being developed in much shorter time frames, however the I think from all the reading around that the 360 architecture would benefit from more bespoke graphics techniques, but this means longer development time, which I don't see MS pushing.

That is all, I see 2 consoles designed for games, but one seems to have more bespoke development then the other..

All IMO of course.. please don't start ranting and raving over it!
