Recommend me a pair of running shoes

How much does it cost extra when you do this "expert analysis" thing?

Nothing, well I've certainly never paid for it.

Shops who have knowledgeable staff who will fit you properly will get your business again and again. Sometimes, like at Run & Become, the analysis is simply them watching you run up and down the street and at other shops they video you in different shoes and show you comparisons.

It all comes down to getting the right shoes though.

Also, colour and style don't matter, only fit and support.

someone had to :p

Thanks for the advice guys - I actually went to soccer sports , tried on some £70 asics and didn't feel as comfy as the £40 ones, so I went for the cheaper option.

I'll see how they go - went running today just after buying the shoes, and they felt pretty good. We will see after a few runs.

Anyone know a decent running shoe shop in Manchester?

Sweatshop have one in Hyde which should be good.

Call me a running snob, but I wouldn't go to JJB if you paid me. All my stuff comes from Wiggle, Sweatshop and Start Fitness (bargins to be had in their clearance section) with shoes sometimes from Run & Become.

hi tec silver shadows!

They're certainly good value (hence the use of them in military fitness training) however they aren't nearly as good as some shoes that are just a little more expensive.

The only reason I use them is due to the fact that I want to get used to wearing them so when I go to recruit training I will hit the ground running - HAR HAR.

Saw a pair of Asics Patriots for £29.99 the other day in JJB. They'll definitely be better, but it's up to you whether you want to spend form out £10 above the price of the Silver Shadows.

will the military not let you wear your own trainers instead of the Silver Shadows? I thought they just issued them so that everyone definitely had some trainers for doing PT.

I always wore my own trainers for PT at OTC.

The Corporals said that the PTI's would let you if they were found suitable, but after speaking to recruits they said that it's an extremely rare occurrence - they just tell you to shut up and wear the Silver Shadows. Every recruit I saw there was wearing Silver Shadows.

Does flat-footedness still proclude you from joining the forces? If it doesn't then dispensation must surely be given on the Sliver Shadow front for those who need their own shoes.

I would strongly recommend purchasing a tiger, and slab of meat. Much better results then a pair of trainers can give you ( Provided you can outrun a tiger... )

Not a clue I'm afraid.

Oh and I'm a complete idiot for not reading the OP properly and seeing that you're joining the Navy.

Use Silver Shadows, you'll be glad when you get to HMS Raleigh and you can deal with the shoes. A lot of people just hate them :p

silver shadows are pretty good trainers to be honest.

the fact that they are used in the military is exactly why i recommended them. They only cost about 20 quid but they are a comfortable shoe

What about the fact that you would never see a runner wearing them?
