Alloy Cleaner

do not be using either of these regularly

If your the sort of person to clean your wheels once every 2 months, or only once you've forgotten what colour they used to be you'll probably be ok

But these (Wonder Wheels and Megs Hot Rims) are both very strong cleaners. If your going to be cleaning every week etc. then get something much milder as you will eat away your lacquer.

It is once every 6 weeks or so indeed.

^^Link above points to an OcUK thread. DId someone point them to it or were they proactive themselves?

ive got some carplan wonderwheels and also some virosol, rate them both about equal tbh! I got 3 big bottles of virosol from costco for £8, they charge £9 for one of them from halfrauds!

Halfords sell Virosol now?? Awesome!

fs i meant the carplan stuff! Edit on its way

:(

Nevermind! I'll be getting more from glovesnstuff when I run out then. Shame their price has risen, but when you're getting so much of the stuff, I don't think a few quid matters much anyway!

if you have sensitive alloys or painted calipers avoid anything that's extremely acid/alkaline, e.g. wonder wheels, virosol, hot wheels, the list goes on. If it smells acidic then I wouldn't go near it.

Bilberry is as good as it gets and also safe. If they're really dirty you just use a higher concentration, anything left then 2 minutes with a claybar and it's gone

p.s. I'm sure it's virosol that's rebranded toilet cleaner

Wonder Wheels has never proved to be a problem on my Painted Calipers but then again i'm not Hamfisted with the stuff.

Going to check out this Bilberry product however, sounds good.

yea it tends to be the alkaline ones (e.g. virosol) that fade coloured calipers the worst, don't ask me why though.

Wonder wheels is however one of the strongest acidic cleaners, it strips everything off the wheels, whereas you can have your wheels sealed, use bilberry or another safe cleaner and the sealant will still be left on the wheels. Prolonged use will break down the lacquer, but if just used on the rare occasion when all else fails, it's not goin to do much harm.

surprising, maybe it's not citrus based then and just has an added "orangey" smell :D

no, you're right in saying it's citrus based...maybe it's derived from some sort of crazy space citrus

edit: hmmm sodium citrate apparently
