All PC Gamers are pirates and the PC is hard to program for...

I know more people who know how to torrent because they're watchers of Lost/Prison break etc. than because of high end PC gaming.
But the film industry is MUCH larger. They get the people who are happy to pirate, the people who are happy to buy and the people who don't know anything about piracy.

The nature of PC gaming means that the majority are technically in the know, and are largely aware of less legal methods of acquiring games.

The two are incomparable.

I find that the hardcore PC gaming market is over saturated with complete knobs. I actually agree with Cliffy. I used to think that the hardcore PC gamer was the best kind of gamer, we like to build and tweak PCs, spending time fine tuning hardware and software and playing quality games. I've only quite recently realised how many of us are unashamedly ripping off devs. I always knew millions of kids that don't understand the damage they are doing pirated games, but it extends way beyond them. I thought OcUK was a community safe from the pirates untill not that long ago, seems too many of us are willing to pirate too.

I guess people don't want to believe they are doing that much damage, it's a complete lack of morals. Blah blah "not paying for crap games" blah blah. Great, so now we have a platform that developers are afraid to develeop for.

But its not like you can stick a chip in a 360 or PS3 and play the games for zilch?

Console piracy is out of control too, but it is nothing like the sad state of PC piracy. At least they still make money from the unmodded consoles (lots). PC gamers just have to click a link, and as we have established the kind of PC gamers that want to play big budget titles are the kind of gamers that know how to pirate without any hassle or consequence.

there is few examples why people download game illegally.

It does not have multiplayer why i should buy it i can get free or cheaper downloading it.

and

In some country's 20~25£ it is just to much to pay for a game and they just downloading it.

i doubt that uk or ireland has high game piracy tbh

Guys, you can't just state exactly why pirates choose to pirate.

There must be a million reasons, each depending on the individual. I even have my own reason why I might go downloading a game, one which I've not seen mentioned I might add.

It does, but lets not get into piracy justification, this thread does not require it. That topic leads down dark roads.

GOW2 will probably show up on the PC eventually - probably shoddily ported.

They could release on Steam to combat piracy. Oh, but they can't really do that as they are Microsoft's bitch.

Not really worried about Epic's whining. For me they haven't released a good game since the original UT.

As for attacking people with high-end systems - don't Cliff and his like spend a great deal of time hyping up high-end products in cooperative marketing programs with nVidia, AMD and Intel?

Unfortunately many developers and publishers spend so much time building up upcoming titles with constant hype on the web and in gaming mags that they're never likely to deliver on their promises. This just makes a lot of gamers so cynical that they would rather pirate the game and avoid feeling ripped off when the game turns out to be rubbish or just unfinished.

Nowadays I sometimes wish I could just walk into a game store and find a brand new top quality title sitting there on the shelf that I didn't even know was coming out....because the developer had been keeping their head down and concentrating on making the most polished game they can, without some publisher forcing the pace resulting in an over-hyped bug-ridden product.

oh noes! We won't get a mediocre FPS aimed at the tard... sorry console market.

Congratulations to conforming to the moronic, elitist PC gaming stereotype: 'LOL CONSOLEZ ARE TOYZ FOR TARDS!!!!!1111one1!'

Oh, and it's not an FPS, it's a third person shooter.

Now that is funny.
And totally no excuse at all as is if Multiplayer is some sort of gamers right & must be included in every game.
When did that get written into the rule books.

So you rip them off instead.

Normally when i see something i don't like i don't buy it & walk away as no one is forcing me to buy it in the first place & i certainly don't feel any compulsion to take with out paying because i didn't like it, which would also go against logic to take something you did not like because the fact it if you take it then you did want it no matter how good or bad it it looks to be & the rule is if you take it you pay for it.

The developers are making it harder on themselves with "anti-piracy" measures and writing games more suited to teenagers that haven't reached maturity yet. This is why they're selling less, primarily. Games used to have depth, imagination, originality, a reason to make you give a damn about the pixels on your screen and keep you playing. This rarely happens anymore.

/goes off to play Jedi Outcast

Agree & that's what happens when a media gets to a certain size.

The same goes for movies & music that the most diverse & creative are rarely seen or heard of & its the main stream types that gets all the backing & funding with big ad budget.

But lucky not matter what there will always be an exception to the rules as there needs to be for trends to change.

[I sense the above quote contains sarcasm, hence my reply]

It isn't that easy, as it's impossible to pirate on the PS3 at present and on the 360 you are likely to end up with your console banned from xbox live. On the PC at present the only thing you have to worry about is the extremely small minority that get letters from law firms demanding compensation.

Would people please stop claiming it's possible to pirate on the PS3 at present, it really isn't.

360 you are likely to end up with your console banned from xbox live.

Very false, the people who did get banned were running the older firmware.

I still know people who'd have their 360 modded for over 2 years and are unbanned.

I personally got banned as I didn't update my firmware, but since the newer firmware came out (was sometime in 06) it has been fine.

Consoles are toys though, always have been, more advanced these days though than what they were but most still class them as toys.

It almost sounds like you're proud to admit this.

I'm not trying to make enemies here, I'm not labeling anyone or calling you names (if OcUK has taught me anything, it's that you cannot change anyones mind), I'm just taking advantage of the situation so I can understand:

What is it about your personality that gives you such confidence to talk about piracy in your home so publicly?

Do you believe you have valid justification, or perhaps you like people to know you are capable? Do you feel guilt?

It is true though... most of the people with high spec PCs do know how whereas lower end users who play the Sims and their Wii aren't really a threat.

I don't see where he said the PC as a platform is hard to program for.

That is very different, PC games are easier to pirate as they do not require any modding.

not really when your consider nearly everyone probably knows someone who will chip it for them.

even my mum whos in her 60s can get pirate dvd's from some guy at the nursing home she works in i bet he sells games aswell and probably knows someone who chips consoles.
