EDIT: I NECRO'D MY OWN THREAD! Early Access is here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/376310/

----Original Post Below----

Rather than put this in PC Games (although I may do that as well :p) it has just been announced they are releasing a PC MMO Game based on the Tad Williams Otherland series of novels:

Not slated for release until about 2010, as usual I am in two minds about this going to be really really good or really really bad. However with Tad Williams consulting for it.... chances are good (I hope).

Wow... *checks it out*

I'm just re-reading Otherland at the moment. Now all we need is a Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire MMO :)

For Gods sake we don't need anymore MMO's the market is becoming saturated

Where's the fun going to be playing when the user base across all MMOs is so diluted

Also why ruin books by doing this

We have enough MMOs coming out?

You could say the same about any game genre. FPS games...not many of those about, are there?

I guess we should just tell all those companies to cancel everything given that a new WoW expansion is out soon, right?

Heh, I put this in the Book section originally thinking it would generate more interest there... shoulda known Tad Williams fans are more likely to haunt the PC Games section ;)

If only they could make it fully immersive and the only way you could play was to break into a mountain military base, hold on a sec...

Does sound good if they can re-create all the settings although I can't really get too excited about possible MMO's scheduled for the next 2-3 years.

Decent sci-fi mmo's at the moment you can count on the fingers of one hand - Eve, Tabula Rasa, um...Anarchy Online I suppose and if there's something seriously wrong with you, SWG.

I'd kill for a few more decent mmo's that don't have orcs in em (except for the WH40k one, natch :))

here here!

I advise you to check out a MMO supposedly being released next year called Earthrise... this looks like a very good Sci-Fi MMO.

Age of conan was based off of (quite obviously) Conan. But they promised far too much at release. I just hope they don't do it with this one.

Hmm, not sure about this. Love TW's traditional fantasy stuff but found Otherland to be painfully boring. I gave up about 1/4 way into the second book :(

But if the game is good, who knows, maybe I'll give it a go and try the books again.

The books are worth sticking with. I found that MS&T had lots of painfully boring bits, but these things are what makes TWs books so great as they build a vivid world, history and set of characters. I have to say that his latest Shadow series is absolutely fantastic and I've found no boring bit in there yet :D.
