It is indeed their culture, and their culture is morally reprehensible. Just because it's their culture doesn't make it right. It used to be our culture to enslave people, for example. We were wrong, it was a disgusting practice.

Common sense is relative. We're lucky to have advanced as a society to be able to learn from our mistakes. It's my belief that our achievements aren't enough to allow us to be world police, judging peoples on their practices. Who showed us we were wrong? Point out to me the Armchair Warriors who tutted at us at every opportunity.

People have to work these things out for themselves. Leave them to it.

Muslims topics are popular because of less restriction on 'freedom of speech' on the Internet. Most people want to chip in their opinion, which is generally a negative and hateful one, rightly so.

This new law is stupid, seems to be slowly trying to get rid of women :/

I'm not in any way endorsing forcing women to cover their faces, any more than I condone slavery, but... it's not within our rights to impose our cultural norms and standards on Islamic culture, any more than Muslims have the right to force Western women to cover themselves up.

Collective Western opinion today is that slavery is morally reprehensible, and that women shouldn't be forced to cover themselves up. But our morality is coloured by cultural prejudices and biases in just the same way as that of Islamic clerics, or people who supported slavery. Westerners of the 23rd century might well regard 21st-century morality as abhorrent.

Of course everybody is entitled to their views - but this doesn't mean you can say that views from another time or culture are absolutely 'wrong'. There isn't really an absolute standard.

As examples go, that's a bad one... slavery still exists in Britain to this day and isn't confined to some seedy criminal underworld, legitamite business' will happily enforce debt on immigrants (illegal or not) then intimidate them to keep them bonded to that debt.

Just because we don't put them on a chain and parade them as slaves for sale in market places doesn't mean it doesn't exist, even to the extent that in sheer numbers it is almost certainly worse today than it ever was in our history.

So before declaring us shining beacons of morality for the rest of the world to worship whilst loathing their backward selves, pick an example that stands up and sweep all the other crap under that bulging carpet you're walking around on.

I think someone should say its wrong as those women don't have a voice, they are practically regarded as property, from any ethical viewpoint its wrong.

From the viewpoint of Western ethics it's wrong. You think it's wrong and I think it's wrong. But is there any reason why our values should be more valid than Islamic ones, however extreme we consider them?

Ask those Women that, you really think they want to be regarded as property? Also I dont think this has anything to do with Islam, its Men using Women as property and trying to twist Islam to suit them.

I think those Saudis have very small peewees TBH as their obsessed with controlling Women.
