Whats going on with the GTX260 Core216?

What's the point in a 10yr warranty? you expect to be able to get it's retail worth of a replacement after even 3 years in a new card if it breaks?

Unlikely.

the point isn't the length of the warranty but the quality of the rma service i.e 3days-2weeks for bfg/evga and usually 4-8 weeks for the rest

4870 is still the best value to performance card you can get at the moment-fact
Hey RavenXXX2 I don't agree! :)

The HD4850 is the obvious contender for *best* value to performance, it's such a stonking card I think it's amazing that so many people overlook it in their quest to swell their ePeen! :o :D

And before you pull out your pitchfork let me just say I do think the HD4870 is a very good card but it just uses too much power to run . . . the hint is any card that needs two PCI-E power cables is not a card to buy!

I dont understand it. I'm quite an Nvidia fanboy and even I wont pay the extra over a 4870 for this card - if the prices are still as they are now in 2-3 weeks time I'm going to go ATi, its £70 wasted otherwise.
nVidia are *Out The Game* currently after getting a good upper cut from ATI's HD4000 series. nVidia are making no sense at all with their hashed GPU releases atm? Hopefully they learn a lesson and get back to the nVidia of old that released really stonking products!

4850 cf is the sweet spot... if you can deal with ATI - can be had for the price of a 260GTX 216 and don't seem to have half the problems of the 4870 from what I've heard.

Personally I've never had much joy with ATI so plan on SLIing with my current 260-216 down the road on the i7/X58 platform.

 Not sure what you mean ,but they do replace old cards without a fuss. They either give you the same card but refurbished or the next card up.

So this GTX 260 with 216 cores rather than 192, is better (performance wise, generally speaking, on average, forgetting the price-performance ratio, etc etc *sprinkles icing over post*) than the ATI 4870?

You can get a BFG OC2 GTX 260 for like £40 more than the cheapest 4870, and you get a 10 year warranty then... which is pretty much a guarantee it's not gonna break. The short warranties on ATI are what worries me most as I've had multiple cards die just out of warranty and I'm fed up with it! BFG will have you a new one within the week if it breaks so from experience it's well worth paying the extra cash for a good company and warranty.

If the GTA 260 is all-round faster than the 4870, I think I will buy one.

Warranty is nothing more than a marketing gimmick and your post is BS i'm afraid.

It's people's way of justifying their allegiance to a company.

Its sad and reeks of fail

Why would you want more than a 3 year warranty at most anyway? After that point the card's normally depreciated so much that if something goes wrong it's not really worth the hassle to replace.

Also Fox, how long did you keep your last card for? The length of time between upgrades should give you a good idea of how long a warranty is ideal for you.

I do however PROMISE you that you won't make full use of a 10-year warranty.

well put it that way there is two bmw one is red other one is green. green one has loads of power but handles badly and all interior is made from plastic.

and the red one has right amount of power handles really well and has leather interior.

For me the only stonking cards they have released as of late were the 8800 series. Ati pretty much had the performance lead from the 9700 series all the way up to the 8800 series.

My post is BS, I'm sad and reek of fail...

 bunch of idiots

So whats wrong with Saphire and gainwards 2Yr warranty and Asus 3yr warranty?

These are not short warranties? Like you state in your previous post.
Also a long warranty does not guarantee a card will not fail either.

My BFG 8800GTX failed within 3 months.

Are you telling me you will be using the same GFX card in 2018?

The 260 is already dead tech:p

I agree, not many people who use the forums will keep a card over 2/3 years really and to be honest what will it be worth then anyway.

My 320 is about 20months old and what it worth? £30.

Performance : power consumption on the 260/280 is on par with 4870/4870X2, Idle power is lower for both than a single 4870 too.. Seems like good enough 'tech' to me..

Only thing I can really fault about my 260 is its overclocking potential on air - the shader clock doesn't go very far and if you unlink the core clock performance drops off horrid. On water its another matter - the sky is the limit and it actually becomes a very good card.

At idle it hardly uses any power and is very cool and even maxed out its only running ~40% on the fan and 63C.

So far its been the most stable, cool and quiet card I've ever owned and the drivers have been faultless... a far cry from the 4870 I tested which was noisey, hot (tho fairly average compared to GPUs of late) and constant driver issues not to mention the dodgy FSAA quality.
