Fifa vs Pes

FIFA plays right, and in a way I am so glad that the game with all the licenses etc, is the game I like :)

Totally agree with that :)

There's a few things that are annoying me about FIFA this year, but it isn't game breaking.

Lack of ability to change player numbers in manager mode, and the fact they've taken weather out of the game after they put it into the game in Euro 2008 :(

I really am shocked that some people are saying PES is better though, in all the other years I'd have said either

a) PES has been better
or
b) in the last few years they've been so close... it's your choice

But this year, I really can't see how people would favour PES over FIFA... the demo just plays like crap :o

For me, PES has never been better than FIFA, even when FIFA was stale.

That's a bit of a bold statement :p (no pun intended)

PES has always been the better game up until last year but the only reason FIFA 08 was the better game was because PES2008 was so poor.

This year however, FIFA 09 easily beats the competition on all levels.

I've never been able to get along with PES at all.

Okay, let me put it another way. PES feels like what i'd play if I went in an arcade. Whilst some arcade games are good, most sacrifice realism for "faster paced" gameplay, and I feel PES does that to an extreme.

The only time I find FIFA non responsive/not in control is when I'm sprinting with the ball...

Hang on, that makes sense and pretty realistic the way I se it. And when I'm not sprinting, or using the pace control trigger than I have full control if my player is any good, and his shooting/passing isn't so delayed or inaccurate.

The only team on FIFA that can be half good while sprinting ALL the time is Barca, which is why so many people use them, and why it's so damn hard to defend against them ,grrr.

I didn't think we'd have the Barca problem this year?

Thought the devs said they fixed that in Euro 08 with the new style of play and it would translate over into FIFA09?

There's still so many people out there that blatantly ignore FIFA and say it's crap when it has won this year by a freakin' mile.

For the first time in a long time I was actually shocked at how poor PES felt compared to FIFA :o

As I keep saying how can people say one is better than the other without having an extensive play of the new PES.

Fifa is a grower that many wouldn't have bothered with had Pes08 not been so bad, well by the same token PES could be awesome given a month.

I don't think PES will sell well this year causing them to be forced to rebuild a new engine.

I've been a pro evo man all the way from the psone version, but this year it's FIFA.

The PES 09 demo definately feels like a step in the right direction after the frankly dire 08, but I'm at a stage now where I don't live with loads of other people to play with, and as a 1-player/online experience FIFA just offers me more.

It's also worth pointing out that the PS2 version of PES STILL feel and play better than the next gen ones, so I'll stay with those for my PES fix.

While I agree overall, that you do need extensive play to get an entire feel of a game... a whole heap of it can be given from a gut reaction of a demo or quick play though.

I've owned nearly every PES and FIFA since day one on PC's and most consoles. I honestly can say I've never had a knee jerk reaction to how poor PES feels before like I did playing this years demo.

Surely that is an inclination of how poor it'll feel if I continue playing it?

I did play for a good hour or so and it just never felt right.

Fair points but myself like a lot of others really didn't like the fifa08 demo and preferred Pes2008. The gut feeling from the demo was not good. Yet it turned into a game that turned peoples view due to the bad PES lag. Even this year I didn't gel with fifa09 demo.

Yet I think after a month or so I will probably adore it.

I'd quite like it if games like PES and FIFA offered a basic online mode in their demos.

Most of these games appeal for a lot of people is the online side of it, and that's where PES really fell short last year and it would have been something you'd have noticed in the demo.

Could have saved a few people some pennies anyway.

If pro evo online is fixed this year, then i can see me playing both games a similar amount.

Fifa this year is much improved, it still has its niggles, and the ball physics still arent right, but its a fantastic game nonetheless.

I have a feeling online will still be goosed this year.

The ball physics aren't bad though - they even hired an expert in the field to work on it. I'm not entirely sure whether PES has any at all!

problem with fifa is you have to learn to play fifa not learn to play football thats why many people give up and go back to playing football and pro evo, will be trading my fifa in for pro evo which is still miles ahead of fifa in the fun stakes as it always has been

all imo before anyone crys

But PES feels nothing like real football where as Fifa clearly does. You run in PES and the ball never has any variation in how far away it is, it's like a ball on a string, no realism, no overrun, no 50/50 tackles. Hitting a moving ball also doesn't pose the problems that it should, which is something Fifa has down to a tee.

It's just the complete abandonment of realism in PES that has me disappointed. PES2009 could well be the first one I never buy, and that's a shame.

PES.

The pace and control is so much more fun than FIFA. Its no where near aswell presented and polished but give one its a football game. The arcade style of Pro just makes it a lot better to play imo. Tho granted not quite as realistic.

They did apparently. That's what they (Konami) say. They're lying though.

They could be telling the truth, maybe that's why it's so crap this year :p

This isn't aimed at you Nanoman but I can't help but laugh at that.

For years people were saying PES was better because it's now realistic and FIFA was too arcadey, and now people are choosing it because it's more arcadey and FIFA is too real... LOL

PES for me and has been for about the past nine eight years. I have tried Fifa on several occasions and I want to like it, but I just can't get into it in the same way. I guess I'm just too used to PES.

Same for me with past Fifa's but I had Euro 2008 on PS3 and enjoyed it so took the plunge with fifa09 and really like it

you have only ever pressed pass and shoot and not delved a little deeper into the controls

no variation on how far away the ball is? very easy to knock the ball on and double tap the button to move it quicker and very easy to over run it when doing this and been there about as long as the fifa one touch system that does the same thing, tacking in pro is also much more a skill than fifa where you just hold a down and run into them and emerge with ball thats if they dont use a ronaldo skill to get past you but thats realism i guess lol

no 50/50 tackles? you are just making it up now lol come online and you see plenty every single match

fifa is not what i think is football but at least i dont make up things to make my point maybe if you scratched a little further than the basic controls you would know that pro evo offers plenty of freedom the manual passing gives you complete freedom if you are good enough

Are you telling me in the 7 iterations of Pro Evolution Soccer alone (not including the many other Konami football games), for the years and years I've played it that I've never delved into the game?

Wrong.

well if you never found out how to move the ball at different lengths then you cant have gone that deep its quite a basic skill so why are you claiming the ball is always at the same distance when its clearly not true?
