Fifa vs Pes

For all my sins I bought FIFA 09 and, as good as it looks/sounds/animates it STILL doesn't play a cracking game of football. Very little excitement involved. Everything seems so forced and out of your hands. I'm hopeful that PES2009 will bring MANY entertaining nights playing footy like 2008 and the previous incarnations all did.

I'll play some more FIFA09 up until the next PES is released but that'll be it I imagine (unless it suddenly really clicks with me).

Edit: this video kind of sums up what I mean about lack of excitement when playing this game: http://www.eafootballworld.com/en_GB/video/1129471 - it's just, so, I don't know...boring.

ive played over 30 or so matches now in fifa 09 and its by far the best footie game out there. PES 09 demo was shocking, from a PES fan i cant understand how they came so far then just milked it along each year, while Fifa just seemed to get better and better as each year pasted.

im in the same boat, id love to like fifa, but pes is just more fun

I haven't played either of the newest games (feel free to tell me to **** off) but here are my thoughts:

I used to play fifa all the time - up until 2006 world cup one where i just got too frustrated playing it with friends. It seemed to me that no skill was involved and they would just use the through pass and their striker would be 10 yards behind my defenders and bearing down on goal. There were literally 20-30 one on ones a game!

After that I got PES 6 and loved it, much less frustrating, hours of fun. I then tried the Fifa 07 demo (think it was 07, could have been 08) and couldnt get the hang of it.

I bought PES 2008 and, like most, was bitterly disappointed to find that the game hadn't really moved on. Online play was abysmal and the lack of features was also disappointing. I wanted to play online with a friend on the same xbox but you cant do it.

I am now in the position where i want to chose a game. I love the sound of the features in fifa, BAP sounds amazing and I would love to try the 10vs10 online. Also the bonus of having huge amounts of licensed teams. However, I am in two minds because I do like the way PES plays...

ok... I guess I should try the demos now :p

I've been playing PES the last few years and not touched a FIFA game. This year I decided to go with FIFA as I like the licensing and prefer having real team names.

They both have their strong and weak points.

Fifa does still have its problems, its still a little slow, it has annoying tackling and weird floaty ball.

Im looking forward to PES, if online is fixed, ill play it a lot, im happy to play both, they offer a suitably different game of football to warrant having both.

Was always a PES fan boy since the early days of ISS, picked up Fifa 08 and I brought PES 08 which was awful. Gave PES another chance spent a night trying the demo which I thought was dreadful, players have no flair, got Fifa 09, played lots of be a pro and 10v10 and believe it is the best football game on the market.

PES has let all the users down badly on the PS3 so far.

For anyone still undecided about this game I recommend downloading both demos and playing several games of each back to back.

I did this and it opened my eyes to both games positives and negatives.

PES is both fast and action packed, its responsive and addictive, however it looks last gen and the player movement is nothing short of rubbish, 45 degree angles allowed only apparently. Also the ball sounds like your kicking a brick.

Fifa looks much better, very much next gen graphics, the player movement is perfectly smooth, feels really nice, however it sooooo slow, by the end of my second game I felt like I was watching a slow motion replay, the players are totally unresponsive and the ball is so light its like kicking a balloon.

So there you have it, both versions have their good points and bad points, for me PES edges it slightly on playability, I just could not get to grips with the unresponsivness of fifa and the speed, its just a shame it looks so dated.

45 degree angles arent bad, most players on FIFA are 90 degree angles :p

I have heard so many of you saying how good Fifa is that I thought I would give it a go on PC and then buy it on PS3 if I like it... I have to say it's pretty damn good so far - I just wish i could change the controls to map exactly to PES though as I'm just so used to them :(

I might end up buying Fifa instead of PEs this year - not decided still yet.

As you turn on Fifa it gives you the option to map the keys to however you want them. Alternately, use New Alternate to make them like PES.

After playing 100+ games of fifa 09 and plenty of the PES demo I'm now of the opinion I dont like either much I'd still rather play Pes6.

The extra features in Fifa 09 blow me away, but at the heart of it you have a very poor football game. Shooting, is poor. Tackling is as bad as i've seen in a footie game and things like defending and using the A button to pressure works worse than it ever did in Pes6. The defender will stutter giving the attacker a few yards or if your running alongside instead of moving in at and angle move directly up at the player chasing a shadow.

Exactly.

Fifa feels very slow and detached from the game, whereas Pro you feel involved and once you get into it even the demo is pretty impressive.

Fifa will always win in the overall looks to most (altho I actually prefer Pro!), but Fifa has some great new features I wish Pro did, online wise. Pro is the better footie game, Fifa has the added features Pro needs.

I was even ready to buy Fifa this year, but Pro again for me.

FIFA is cack on the PC :o

It's okay but nothing compared to the console version. You can map the keys on the PC and on the consoles when you choose what control options you want.

It's all in the options menu as well.

Ok guys which one plays better? I've only played the PES demo and i'll play the Fifa demo soon.

People have different opinions, and this type of thread only starts arguments :p

Download the demo of both and decide what you like better.

Personally it's PES for me & I don't particularly like FIFA, but I know people who hate PES and love FIFA.

I gotta say I'm firm in the FIFA camp this year, I've never really hated FIFA or PES, but PES this year is terrible for me :(
