£150 to remove this rust, good price?

Oh they managed all the big stuff just fine - its the quality control and finishing off that they failed at, in epic style.

I'd be rather annoyed if they got a 3rd party in to sort that and not do it themselves. Any idea how much 3rd party they actually draft in for works like this?

It was - it perfectly conveyed my thoughts to your assumption that BMW would automatically do a sterling job :)

I also said "or at least hope" they would do a sterling job being the main dealer and the price of some of the cars they deal with and the owners expectations of repair

M3's, Z's in for crash damage just today

I took the Z back to the supplying dealer to have a bit of paintwork touched up. They left a run in the paint in the boot and claimed it was 'acceptable' and 'factory standards'.

Gah I don't know what to do now :(

At least I can go back to BMW and complain if anything is untoward and expect them to sort it this may be harder at a small indy bodyshop especially for small nit picky bits.

It's the guarantee of repair that sways me towards going with BMW.

Oh yea - you've got complete comeback which you wont get at an independant bodyshop. I kept moaning and, eventually, the car was returned to perfection. I'd have got told to **** off at Bobs Garage, no doubt.

Took BM 5 attempts to sort out my Mini Coopers front bumper. All done by an independent until on the final attempt the **** left something under the bonnet slammed it and but and outward facing pimple in it. It the got sent to their bodyshop and was sorted first time after this.

Did you not buy your car under BMW direct scheme with 1 years warranty?

It would be a bit hard for the dealer to do the job in the main garage as there is no shop and only servicing. The Bodyshop is entirely different.

Talking of rust, I have some small bits forming on my roof just above the windscreen, they are literally 5mm wide stone chips which have gone very deep, can I get Ford to fix this under the paint and perforation warranty? Or does it need to be a certain size or whatever?

Thanks.

Its an old car at the end of the day, your likely to get odds and sods of imperfections, its probabaly somewhere where its been chipped and hence you have rust now.

The more you strive for perfection with old cars the more you will notice things, you end up worrying about the car more than driving it! I certainly wouldnt spend £150 on something like that.

So leave it and watch the panel rot out?

Surely it's more cost effective to just fix it. I'll be keep the car a few years I'd have thought :)

Personally I'd get it fixed - I wouldnt want that on my car and don't see why the age identifier on the registration plate is, according to some on here, some sort of dictator as to whether its worth fixing stuff on it or not - but I'd get other quotes. It doesnt look like a difficult job and its a very small job so the potential for screwups is low.

Sorry, but 'paint' warranty is for paint defects; 'perforation' is for, well, perforation. Can't think of any manufacturer whose paint warranty will cover chips that have been allowed to go rusty.
