Have I overclocked my Q9550 correctly?

I've just built a new rig based on an Asus P5Q-E, 4GB of Geil Evoone RAM and a Q9550 with the standard cooler. And, after a couple of teething troubles, I now have it up and running and have made my first ever attempts at overclocking. Here's what I did:

Advanced > CPU configuration
1. CPU Ration Setting - Change from Auto to 08.0
2. C1E Support - Change from Enabled to Disabled
3. Execute Disable Bit - Change from Enabled to Disabled

Ai Tweaker
1. Ai Overclock Tuner - Change from Auto to Manual
2. CPU Ratio Setting - Check that this is 08.0
3. FSB Frequency - Change from 333 to 485
4. DRAM Frequency - Change from Auto to 100
5. PCIE Frequency - Check that this is 100
6. DRAM Frequency - Change from Auto to DDR2-1165MHz
7. DRAM Timing Control - Change from Auto to Manual
8. CPU Voltage - Enter 1.39
9. DRAM Voltage - Enter 2.2

CPU-Z shows a DRAM Frequency of 582.1MHZ, CPU core voltage of 1.376V and a Core Speed of 3880MHz, 8X multiplier, 485 bus speed, and a rated FSB of 1940 MHz.

I'm getting a Geekbench 2 score of 4885 with the BIOS defaults and around 6800 when using the above settings. Geekbench 2 reports a CPU speed of 4.12GHz, rather than the 3.88GHz shown in CPU-Z.

I'm totally new to all of this, so I'd be extremely grateful if anyone can spot any glaring errors in what I've done. I'm not sure I have the RAM set up correctly for one (shouldn't the frequency be higher?), and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other tweaks I can make to eek a bit more performance out of the kit.

Cheers,
Matt

Looks grand. 485mhz out of a quad-core is good going.

Geekbench 2 is showing the wrong CPU speed because you've dropped the default CPU multi from x8.5 to x8. That happens with a lot of software and is nothing to worry about.

Having trouble hitting 3.8 with the same set up mainly cos im worried about the temps im getting mid 60s on one core at 3.6 under load, and i only have my voltage set to 1.28 anyone got any ideas? this is my first attempt at OC and im clutching at straws.

Mid 60s under load isn't too bad. Should have no issues going into the mid 70s.

Im running my q9550 at 4ghz / 1.368 vcore and it sits around 69/70 on full load after 10+ hours of prime small fft. This is using a noctua + 2 sharkoon 2000rpm fans attached. Oh and thats with tj max at 100 not 95!

i take it the noctua comes with one fan and the other has to be bought?
does it come with clips for both fans?

yea it comes with a noctua fan but i ditched it and put on 2 sharkoon 120mm 2000rpm fans :)

here's a pic:

and yup, it comes with clips for 2 fans allready, just make sure u buy 25mm deep fans :)

do you run the fans off of the board or a controller...my controller already has 6 case fans going to it.
Was thinking about adding another noctua fan (they seem to get good reviews), why did you go with the sharkys? is there a lot of difference.

looks smooohhhks they have got good write ups, saying that you can get sharks for the price of 1 Noc fan so cost wise isnt much different.
do the sharks come with 3-4 pin convertors

sharks come with a 3 pin cable so its perfect to use for HS :) and they have the optional converters if you need other pin configurations.

jonny - Outta curisoity, you have one of the sharks in the CPU fan header, where did you plug the second? In a chassis fan header?

I got the one noctua fan on my noctua, but I'm gonna bag 2 sharks like you, just wanna know the ideal places to plug the second shark into.

Cheers dude!

doesnt matter where u plug it, just choose the 2 3 pin sockets nearest the cpu :)
