I've just built a new rig based on an Asus P5Q-E, 4GB of Geil Evoone RAM and a Q9550 with the standard cooler. And, after a couple of teething troubles, I now have it up and running and have made my first ever attempts at overclocking. Here's what I did:
Advanced > CPU configuration
1. CPU Ration Setting - Change from Auto to 08.0
2. C1E Support - Change from Enabled to Disabled
3. Execute Disable Bit - Change from Enabled to Disabled
Ai Tweaker
1. Ai Overclock Tuner - Change from Auto to Manual
2. CPU Ratio Setting - Check that this is 08.0
3. FSB Frequency - Change from 333 to 485
4. DRAM Frequency - Change from Auto to 100
5. PCIE Frequency - Check that this is 100
6. DRAM Frequency - Change from Auto to DDR2-1165MHz
7. DRAM Timing Control - Change from Auto to Manual
8. CPU Voltage - Enter 1.39
9. DRAM Voltage - Enter 2.2
CPU-Z shows a DRAM Frequency of 582.1MHZ, CPU core voltage of 1.376V and a Core Speed of 3880MHz, 8X multiplier, 485 bus speed, and a rated FSB of 1940 MHz.
I'm getting a Geekbench 2 score of 4885 with the BIOS defaults and around 6800 when using the above settings. Geekbench 2 reports a CPU speed of 4.12GHz, rather than the 3.88GHz shown in CPU-Z.
I'm totally new to all of this, so I'd be extremely grateful if anyone can spot any glaring errors in what I've done. I'm not sure I have the RAM set up correctly for one (shouldn't the frequency be higher?), and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other tweaks I can make to eek a bit more performance out of the kit.
Cheers,
Matt
