Piracy- it's killing PC gaming

imagine this scenario - you walk into your local game shop

pick up a game and take it to the counter
the guy who walks in before you picks up the same game and takes it out of the shop without paying

he is a scrote
you are not

Stop being an idiot, copying a few files from someone is not stealing, nor does it represent a lost sale in a lot of cases.
exactly

exactly

exactly
What exactly ?

If you show me a way to clone my neighbors 850csi for me in a few minutes without any costs except a few watts of electricity, then you have a point. But you can't costlessly clone a car.

all of those who do pirate games - i look at you as scum

Likewise, if you're too dumb understand the difference between copying and stealing, I think you're scum too...

Imagine your mate has a really hot girlfriend. Somebody has discovered a way of cloning people, so you make an exact copy of her for yourself.

Have you 'stolen' your friends girlfriend? Of course not.

..and there we go. The thread is officially on the same **** track that every OcUK piracy discussion goes down.

Enjoy the journey!

He called me scum first.
And what exactly does stealing a hard copy from a shop (of his example) got to do with copying software from the net ?

The threads wouldn't go that way if people would stop refering to copyright infringement as theft, and making absurd comparisons to stealing cars/TVs etc.

bleh most pirates are under 25 in my experience, they'll grow out of it someday..maybe, half of them don't even play the games they download very much its just simply about the downloading and accumulation of more and more free games

If I download a game and don't play it much it's because I don't enjoy it enough.

Nothing to do with the downloading, you make it sound like it's some kind of drug and a desire that must be filled by downloading more and more stuff.

case 1 - im not an idiot - a copied game is a lost sale that could have been reinstated into an industry
i understand that nobody in the world has that much free cash - but piracy is just daft

a copied game is a lost sale - if you own a copy of a game - you are hardly about to rush out to buy another copy

case 2 - exactly means that if you cant afford it - you cant have it - simple as

case 3 - thanks for the other insult... i do understand the difference - but i place them on the same level

thanks for your input

also - adsta - your stories do make me laugh

you forgot to add that once in jail the perp would get penetrated in a violent manner - hard and deep - by a big burly bloke

people who dont pirate games get to go to bed at night with a clear concience
next to beautiful women [and a good sausaging ensues]

i hope people who pirate games - or people like snowdog who pirate games/think it is acceptable practice to pirate games get the first option thrust on them like a tonne of bricks

and yes snowdog
you will look like the DUMB IDIOT when you are being gang raped in jail

i called people who pirate games scum
you take it that way - guilty as charged

and its the same principle
the fact that you think you are doing nothing wrong and so freely condone it is half the problem

+1 especially the bit about sausaging

I am doing nothing wrong, read article 16b of the dutch copyright act if you want...

a copied game is a lost sale

Nope. Some cases yes, most cases no...
If you fail to understand such simple things as ''free or no thx'' then just forget it, forget I said anything in this thread.

The defense that its not stealing its copyright infringement is laughable because while thats true, both are illegal anyway

Who's using it as an excuse? We are just pointing out that they are not the same thing.

Rape is illegal, does that mean it's the same as copyright infringement?
