Piracy- it's killing PC gaming

Then you have not quite grasped what a RIP is.

If I download a game rip (i.e. an ISO or other format such as CCD or NRG) I have to mount it to run it, sometimes with very specific software, or extract the whole thing to a messy directory and install it that way, which you can't even do with a lot of them as it will ask for the CD.

I've never had to do anything of the sort to install a legitimate retail copy of a game.

I'm sorry, but you might as well leave before you start digging a hole here.

As a game developer you all disgust me and I demand to be compensated for the pennies you may or may not have cost me.

*blissfully ignores the games he may or may not have pirated*

i dont know if its still the same in the states now
but a few years ago when i went to the states
i found the the pc games had no copy protection on them
like we have in the uk, so everyone was copying games over there

isnt a RIP a cut down version of a game though? Not quite the same. Usually a very simple installation.

.
A RIP is not an ISO, it is the files needed to play the game zipped up into one achieve, all you need to do is unzip it and run the Game, no mounting or installing required.

A rip is just what you get when you "rip" the data from the disc, same as when you rip music from a CD and it comes out as a folder of MP3 files, except games and stuff come out as an archive (.iso, .ccd, .mdf/.mds etc. depending on what software you use to rip it).

That archive needs to be run through a virtual drive to install the game, to trick it into thinking it's off a CD, and depending on the type of archive you might to need a specific imaging software to do it. Sometimes this software will need to install a driver on your PC and reboot before you can use it.

Find me one game distributed like this and I'll give you a lolly. I don't know if you have just kidded yourself into believing this, or if you are just spreading misinformation, but I have laid out how it's almost always done.

Indeed, piracy is on consoles, notably the Wii and Xbox360, however for the Xbox360 users have to extract the CD Drive, mess with firmwares etc.. and remove the warranty from their only component, the console.

try your local computer shop...they will do it all for you for about 20 quid and even put the seal back in place incase you need to send it back to microsoft for repairs.

Haha omg my sides are hurting.

Linking to a warez site will get me banned, and we don't want that now do we.

I thought I asked you for a list of games, not where to download them.

Lets just say every game is available in RIP format, heck i have a 920MB rip of Pure open in my browser right now.

Seeing nothing on usenet, all split RARs of disc images.

Take disc out of box and palce in drive takes just as long as mount image.

I take it you pay (lol) someone to pirate your games for you then, maybe someone with a car boot full?

I'm talking about running a game you've downloaded yourself, for free, which most PC pirates do.

pirating a game on PC is no more difficult than installing a standard game.

yeah, if you're going to count having to dl deamon tools as a massive extra effort, then you really should count having to put the disk in every time as a far greater effort + installing any crap DRM, or having to connect to the internet to activate,.

Still pirated games are so much easier to uninstall, no unremoveable root kit style jobbies, which I'm pretty sure our dear ulf has fallen foul to ;)
