The 3 got vandalised!

Just read the thread mate, makes me feel sick to the stomach. Scrotes really wind me up because when they get to 17 they wonder why insurance is so expensive. Glad you are getting it sorted though and dont give up caring for it.

Get one then

R10 VER
S11PPA or something along those lines for your grandad mobile :D

haha, problem is... my car is on an M plate :(

I was thinking either of these...

M400 TUB
M400 ROV
M400 AGW
A400 ROV

But I'm not 100% sure. I like my standard plate actually :D

Im looking at F1 RBR,it's listed at £1500 on DVLC but i can't imagine it being a direct sale. Probably goto auction.

eBay has many plates for sale too but the prices don't seem to be any diff to DVLA except they have more "cherished" ones!

Ok so picked the car up this morning.

The job seems to have been done pretty good, the finish, smoothness and gloss is that of the surrounding panels so I’m pleased with that. The guy said that it was one of the hardest jobs he’s done recently especially on this kind of silver on just one panel because it’s not easy to colour match but it appears to be done nicely though he did say if I was unhappy after a few days sun (so any differences are clearly visible) then to take it back and they’d sort something out.

He did say though in order to get it a perfect colour match then the surrounding panels of that side of the car would have to be done too normally because even clearcoat adds in changing the shade of the silver even by a tiny amount. He showed me the clearcoat they use which was a can the size of a standard watering can and that costs £75 !.

I’ll apply some SRP and Sealant over the weekend as that will get the door panel to the same sheen depth as the rest of the car and see the results and get a pic up. If all is good I won’t need to go back for a re-do!

Apparently it is for a good bodyshop. They took the car, repaired a bent rear quarter, re-aligned rear bumper, repaired bad scratch damage to the front bumper, and sprayed both areas with a perfect finish all within 24 hours. It was however quite expensive, but then in this life you get what you pay for.

Pretty confident you're meant to let the paint "breath" after.... I'd wait a few weeks.

Oh and colour matching grey cars is meant to be a RIGHT pita.

so its soo easy you have to pay a premium for people with the skills to do it well?

didn't say it was easy did I? I think you will find I merely said it was not 'virtually impossible'.

As for polishing, if it was sprayed with 2k and baked (i'd expect no less from a professional outfit) then there isn't really a good reason to wait a long time to polish it as it will fully cure quickly. However, best to ask the shop for their advice, only they know what kind of paint system was used.

What's the deal with wanting to apply a mild polish with more fillers than abraisive compound to a freshly sprayed panel with no defects to hide?
Don't get me wrong, I love my car being shiny and defect free but wanting to use 'fashion' products because it's what the cool cats do is just anal.

Leave the panel for a few weeks to fully harden, then give the car a good going over with all of your awesome products.

(This is coming from a guy who spent over £100 on Zaino products a few weeks ago, just so you know I'm not in the anti-detailling brigade)

mrk just BSOD. You horrible people!

I'm interested in seeing the result. I need some paintwork on my car and I have a picky eye so I hope I can get a decent but cheap finish (rust bubble on my roof :()

No, i've done a lot of reading on auto paints though, I'd personally have no issue polishing it next day and have done so before. Like I say though, if your painter says not to then you are best to listen to them and not some idiot on the internet ;)
