First off apologies for the appalling picture quality, it was taken with an iPhone.

Basically there's not much grabbing me on PC at the moment, so I took to the bay and got these two classics. I'm all read up on getting I-War working under Vista, still got to work out the finer details with Silver but I'm confident.

Any one else have fond memories of these games? I-War is the only space sim that ever grabbed me and I just loved the story, backgrounds and audio of Silver.

All excited for tonight now :D

I just did the exact same. No new PC game has grabbed for a long while, and no MMORPG is currently so I took it upon myself to order the entire Baldurs Gate series to replay through again. Can't wait, should be here today :)

I-War was / is an epic game :) I remember buying it as soon as it came out after reading PC Gamer's mag review. Don't forget to play the expansion pack where you play as an Indy :) I think you take part in the mission where you capture the "Under New Ownership" :D

Sigh. What a classic. Shame I-War 2 abandoned the engineering console... well, all the consoles actually. I loved executing manual repairs and zooming around the schematics

Enjoy mate! Makes me want to dig out my copy...

Oh, and who could forget / resist jettisoning the command module in a last-ditch effort to stay alive after a furious battle with Indy forces. Sheer brilliance.

Official I-War Forum

First google hit :p

It would appear that some users have had success running it in Vista32. There are many having problems with both Vista32 and Vista64, however, there a numerous threads in the forum linked above discussing this :) Looks like a fairly helpful / active forum too, hope you get it working! I still use XP so, without meaning to rub it in, not my problem :p

i read the thread as 'two classes just arrived' thinking they'd added two new characters to TF2

wtf is wrong with me!

I've prepared my Windows 98 virtual pc via remote desktop so I can install them. Just got to work out a way of copying the files into my Vista environment afterwards. Not long now :)

Create a Virtual PC shared folder? It will act as a stepping-stone between your Windows 98 Virtual PC and Vista, so both O/S's will see the same files. I think you need VM Additions installed.

I hadn't realised you could do that, it sounds ideal. Good job you mentioned it or else I would've ended up installing some ancient FTP server!

No problem mate. Are you using Virtual PC 2007? Just ask if you need any help, I use it at work all the time :)

Yeah I'm using Virtual PC 2007, got 98 all installed now but will wait till I get home before I proceed further. I can't put the disks in the drive remotely for a start :(

I have an old P3\Voodoo 2 system running Win 98 sat here for things like I-War, TIE fighter etc. Didn't cost me anything (someone was throwing it out). :)

Why is it that like no other space sims, bar the odd star trek one let you target individual areas on a ship? I loved how you could do that in I-War.

You can do that in some of the X-Wing games on capital ships. I usually go for the shield gens on those pesky Star Destroyers then disable them in my B-Wing :p

Freespace One and Two allow subsystem targeting on cap ships and fighters!

Although I must admit that nothing beats landing a couple of critical PBC hits on a tug / corvette's engine subsystem and watching it spin out of control, sometimes resulting in a collision with another object :)

The newtonian physics, combat and damage systems (amongst many other elements) really made that game
