Two classics just arrived

I remember targeting the crew areas and seeing little bodies fly out into space. That was cool.

I forgot all about that lol. Evil. I used to play with crippled ships... wait for their systems to start slowly coming back online, then pound them again with dual PBC or a missile. Although there was no visible damage texture wise, it was cool to see plasma venting into space... although it does look a bit basic now :)

Did you ever take on a cruiser? Man, I really did feel like I was taking on something immensely powerful and bigger than me where every shot count and subsystems mattered. You know, I don't think I ever did survive an encounter with one of those. I did take out a couple of Destroyers though

You know, I'll probably end up spending my whole evening playing this game now and it's all your fault :p

I-War's destroyers are actually tougher to take out than cruisers because they have most of the speed\manuverability of the corvette :p that said, they have a blind spot or two that you can take advantage of.

I won't deny that destroyers are tough but I definitely found cruisers tougher. Perhaps I just sucked :p Our tactics / play style most likely differ.

They are, but only if you're a suicidal Indy running at them with tugs and patcoms :p a coordinated hit-run attack on a cruiser will scatter its cannon batteries making them less effective. If you go for the right angle, you'll have less of them shooting at you. Its really not manuverable enough to turn during battle, making it a more of a slow floating gun platform.

What is I-War?

I-War is also known as Independence War. It's a space combat simulator with a newtonian physics engine first published in 1997.

Wiki :)

Right that's it! If you can do it, so can I :p I'll be giving this a go later, thanks for the advice!

I think I-War 1 was before my time, but I have fond memories of Independence War 2. Used to play it on my regularly crashing P2 350mhz. Great game.

Any ideas where to get the I-War 3dfx patch guys? I can find one link to it online but its a corrupt download :(

Can't remember seeing one, but would be nice to have ( I've got an old Pentium III system with a Voodoo 2 soldered on the motherboard and only software rendering works).

I hope your going to watch the 15min CGI into on the 1st disc, I remember watching that thinking we'd hit the pinnacle of PC graphics, amazing game :D

The story and voice acting helped make the game what it is, the graphics were just the icing on the cake.

Right I found the two important patches here:

http://www.abby-cheat.com/modules.php?name=Patches&letter=I

3dfx one first, followed by the 1.24. make sure you follow the guide on 1.24 one.

I don't have time to play it properly now, and I'm defintley having problems with missing videos, but otherwise this it's working perfectly under Vista 64.

Now just need to tackle Silver. Got the files sorted but I keep getting an error when I run it.
