Dog Just been Attacked

Ridgebacks are a lot lighter than the Boerboel, but the Ridgeback is/was used in Africa to fend off/kill lions in small groups of 4 or so dogs.

The Boerboel looks utterly monstrous in build, I've never seen them before.

Just found this pic of a boerboel:

Yeah its a mahusively well built dog, but they are meant to be generally non-aggressive, at least from a decent breeder. Superb for defence and excellent guard dogs. These days you have to be careful though as if your dog defends you he ends up getting in trouble, instead of the scum he is driving off :(

Good God... the size of that thing.

On topic: I really hate stories like the OPs. People like those hoods blacken the name of the breed. Bull Terriers are all we've ever owned, be it Staffs, English and before the original dangerous dogs act, Pits. All the ones we've owned have been rescued dogs, ones confiscated from the little pricks that you had a run in with.

The last time I was at the animal shelter there were 8 Rottweilers, 12 Staffies, 4 English Bulls and a whole bunch of Staff half breeds in. People get these dogs thinking they're getting an aggressive status symbol and when it turns out the dogs as soft as butter, or has too much energy for them to deal with they just dump them. Which is a bloody shame, because with the right home and training they are some of the best dogs a family could ever have.

What are the running costs for one of these?

Seems to be fashionable amongst council estate scum/chavs to buy staffies/pitbull-looking dogs

I reckon they need to introduce licensing for dog ownership - one of the key requirements being living in a house with a garden.

I don't think that any dog is inherently dangerous if brought up properly but some of these staffies have very powerful jaws - keeping them locked in a flat all day and not training them isn't a great combination.

As far as I'm aware they were only ever used to keep a lion occupied whilst the hunter arrived to kill it; they would be torn to shreds if actually in a fight with a lion.

Shocking behavior, was always paranoid of this happening when my parents used to take our Retriever out.

The only time our dog got bitten was when an old lady had a Labrador on one of those extendable leads. Her dog pulled her to ours and after both sniffing for a few seconds it snapped and bit mine on the lug, then to top it off the old lady tried to hit our dog with a newspaper. The first and only time ive nearly blew my stack at an OAP.

Chavs see thier dogs as a status symbol, its not really the dogs fault.

going down to the cop shop in a about 40mins to give a statement so hopefully they have the chavs and want to charge them, but I doubt that very much as all surrey police seem to care about is the motorist

That actually happened to me! Well, not QUITE like that :D I was only 14 and had just had kidney surgery, but I'd recently bought a protection trained (professionally 'attack trained') American Bulldog male. He was 26 inches to the withers, and weighed about 8 stone of solid muscle.

I was walking back with him off lead (over a field) with mum, and as we cut down an alley towards our street, Ralph (the dog) stopped for a pee. A gang of lads older than me (around 18) stood up off the railings, threw their beer cans down and basically blocked the alley with a "you're gonna get messed up" look on their faces.

I looked all six of them up and down, laughed... they were like 'huh?!'... and gave them the ole "O RLY?" :D expression back. As they started walking towards us, pounding their fists into their hands, I whistled sweetly "Ralph!" ;)

:D :D :D

Ralph (who had by then finished his pee) came running into the alley behind us, and was NOT impressed to see all those people acting that way, and suffice to say you'll never see chav scum scarper as quickly as they did that day LMAO That dog was epic, RIP.

Awww he's lovely! I live in a crappy area and am glad I have my staffie and English bulls. Getting another one soon too. Chav scum tend to give you a wide birth.

Here's a couple of ours.

Yes, lovely dogs except for the killing others bit. 8 dogs shows you're not getting the hint. You should have lost the right to dog ownership after the first couple too, according to law. :s
