My new toy

one thing i cant help but think, if you're planning on perhaps even doing an engine swap on this, how close to the price you received for the skyline will this get you? Wasnt the point of the swap to save money?

what do you think the difference between a skyline GTR and an old Golf is going to be? even if he swaps the engine for a VR6 Lump he'll still have thousands in his pockets. Plus the insurance and running costs will be ten times cheaper.

It wasn't a Skyline GTR it was a normal Skyline which bar fuel isn't really super expensive to run, is it?

either way the price difference is enough to justify the change, if he went out and forked out 3k for another motor i would have scratched my bonce. Either way you cant argue that a golf Gti is going to cost less to run than a turbo'd rice wagon.
 
It's 20 year old example and by all accounts not exactly a perfect one given the price and Drex's history, bless him, of buying the first example he sees of anything :p It's not going to cost beans to run :p
 
i really dont like big bumpers and i really dont like smoothed tailgates.

for £1100 i would have expected more.

is the bodywork rust free?
 
I like it, but i will say this kind of look, looks better with the Penski treatment, slammed etc.

That said it still looks good, and bet its a hoot to drive something so simple and pure!

Even if I spent £1-1.5k on an engine swap I'd still have freed up a couple of k. Engine swap is not on the cards for the immediate future anyway, so for now it has done it's job, freed up some capital I had tied up in the Skyline.

Fox, it's honestly in great condition, no real rust to speak of and fully waxoyled. Yes, I know I've got a habit of buying before thinking but the history and condition of this one speaks for itself. Insurance will be peanuts and the guy recons he has got 100 miles from a tenner of fuel when not getting on the loud pedal.

The only rust anywhere on the car is a tiny bit of surface bubbling about the size of a five pence piece just under the rear passenger side window.

As others have said I prefer them to look original. But that said I think that was a good price to have paid. The prices are starting to increase now so sounds reasonable to me.
 
Well, I like it DreX. I don't even mind the big bumpers or the smoothed tailgate. And the Ronals are chock-full of win.

Personally, I'd rather have that than your now-sold Skyline. But I'm odd like that.
 
Hi there

Am really liking that, its a classic car in what looks great condition. Love the looks from the front and side plus those wheels are fab, but I am not liking the smoothed rear boot, would look better stock but apart from that stunning bit of car. :)
 
I actually quite like that, when I first passed my test many many moons ago I always fancied a MkII with big bumpers but couldn't afford (Golfs were a nightmare to insure back then). Then when I could afford they were considered naff as the Max Power crew had killed them (M3 mirrors and huge TSWs applied).

Nice retro look now though, not 100% about the smoothed rear, I'd be tempted to slap on a VW badge to break it up.

Quick question, if it's dog slow why go to the bother of fitting a cage?
 
I like the big bumper models, like the wheels, prefer the original tailgate but it's not exactly hideous :)

Don't spend much on the existing engine, get the weight down and maybe tinker with the brakes/suspension if you want to, but it should be good fun to drive whatever.
 
love the look of this mk2 :) would love one like this for my first car... x] and i think those wheels looks the best for mk1/mk2 golfs! :)
