I made the mistake last night of signing up to the 14 day trial of Eve.
The learning curve is insane, I'm still trying to figure out skills and manufacturing, and I've yet to meet another human player.
Any tips? Should I just go and get myself a crack addiction instead? (At least there are govt. programs to get you off crack).
I'm trying to procrastinate right now, but the server is down every day for an hour, apparently.
Go into 0.0 space.
Some of the most memorable / fun / laughed at moments was when i was a noob in EVE and hadnt figured anything out and flew into 0.0 space with my noobship. Seeing lots of people on local and trying to chat to them with almost no replies, untill finally someone says "what the hell you talking on local for". Figuring out that this is the done thing, then still doing it.
Flying into BoB space and expecting to get podded immediately yet not meeting anyone untill deep into BoB territory. Chatting with the occasional miner toon and on one occasion saying i wanted to see a BoB cap ship, and when the guy said "wait right here" not figuring it out untill later what wa going to happen. Only much later releasing these miners in BoB space were BoB alts.
Later on going into a system with a ganking squad at a jumpoint and not being jumped (like i was expecting to), as they waited for bigger fish to fry, then later on getting podded by a lone toon who i was chatting to for like 15min, which gave him enough time to find me in system and then blow me up.
Realised later most people think if your in a noobship in 0.0 you must be a spy, was funny as i later told people what i was doing, just wanting to see the universe as i was new, but most people didnt believe me and even the ones who did, still podded me to protect their space.
However as i was quite chatty, even though most other people i met were not, i still met a lot of interesting people and made a few friends along the way - even became friends with some of the people who podded me.
Pretty much went into everyones 0.0 territory but the Goons/ RA.
It really is an interesting game, despite the fact a lot of people do not trust anyone, and especially not new toons they dont know - which took me a few days to figure out as well.
Those first 14 days gave me more stories to tell than lots of weeks after.
