How about a Lumatec flashcard, a waterproof torch that fits into a pocket, surprisingly bright and only a bit bigger than three credit cards stacked together? You can buy them in camping shops in the UK I believe but I can't find a suitable link in less than 30 seconds searching so that will have to do.

They accept it in England fine, they just look at it/you funny.
