Anyone know the rules on taking Laptops on a plane?

if you're on BA and in world-traveller, you're out of luck

if you're in world-traveller-plus (premium-economy) then there's a good chance that you'll have the little round laptop power-ports.

As far as I know it's economy...will have to check later (I didn't book the flights) - I'll take the charger with me anyway, just incase.

As I mentioned I went through Terminal 5 the other week. I was travelling hand luggage only so it made it easier still, but it did seem to be very few queues anywhere (certainly better then Gatwick North which I went through last week).

I was parked in the Short stay as it was only two days, and coming back I was plane to car in 10mins.

Going through Terminal 5 I had a meal in Wagamamas which was excellent and got a good deal on a new DSLR at Dixons Tax free. Job's a good'un!

99% sure BA cattle doesn't have laptop power. I think it's mainly the American carries who do - eg Continental have laptop power in the first 17 rows or so on most planes.

Sounds good. Just found out we are world traveller....bah

Ah well....lets see if I can squeeze 9hrs out of the MacBook :D

How what have you done to it? Mine lasts about 2 hours especially if the old fan kicks in. How long is it supposed to last?

You can't really do anything on Macs without the internet, I mean, they only have one mouse button so they can't do anything and they suck.

classy :D

if i had a macbook i'd just install XP and enjoy the benefits of XP's reliability and compatability with the Macbook's shinyshiny hardware.

If you can't charge it, how will your laptop charge last 9 hours?

There's a section on charging laptops (and other devices) whilst on the plane.

Last time I flew with my netbook (Aspire one with 2.5hr battery life) I took an external laptop battery as a booster. In the x-ray it did look like a bomb - a small circuit board surrounded by roughly rectangular shapes. The security officer at Manchester airport did a swab test on it, but in Canada and USA they let it pass with no further inspection.

Its brand new, right now I get about 5 - 6 hours from it through general use.

EDIT: Thats with using everything as well.

*Remembers buying 3 off spare batteries for his 12 hour flight for his XPS GEN 2*

Some, but not many airliners have power in economy. The Air Canada plane I was lucky to be on did in the back of the head rest :)

XP's reliability and compatability? You feeling ok? :p

Think laptops are fine as long as there is no wi-fi or 3G card etc.
