FARCRY 2 --- Officially , official of official threads! ---

Been playing most of the morning, got to say it felt a bit awkward at first but now I've gotten into the groove of things it's excellent. It's without a doubt far less restrictive than say crysis. Sure there's less interaction (you can't pick things up and that sort of thing) but you get a completely open world, you get to choose the time you do your missions (I just finish a stealthy night time attack on quite a large camp) and overall it just feels nice and gritty.

Graphically it doesn't touch crysis, but for the performance the game offers you get something that looks pretty darn good.

If they can patch up the AI so it's a bit more consistent (ie, sometimes I walk up to them without them firing a shot and sometimes they react when I'm miles away) and increase the respawn times of enemies/control posts then I'll be quite happy.

Looking at most of the weapon models they really do look poor, they look so bland compared to other games these days - and that hand just doesn't seem right - can't put my finger on it but it just doesn't!

They do, but im not sure if thats because of slack texture work, or because they have the weapons rust and degrade over time so the texture dies with it :).

Postie popped in this morning to my work..

I dont agree, its not far off atall. Prefer the graphics of this oen more but then i havent been able tpo play crysis on mega high without it being a slide show so i cant properly compare.

I'm also not sure why no matter how many times I get shot, and no matter how many times my engine gets trashed; I can pull hundreds of bullets out of my thighs yet still sprint, and my engine is repaired and fully working with little more than a few turns from a wrench. Tacky!

Maybe you got so engrossed you forgot it is a game ?!

Mine was sent from jersey on tuesday. Postman has just been, I doubt it will be arriving today then. Fingers crossed for tomorrow for a four day delivery if not roll on saturday.

Personnaly I'm going to ignore all comments good and bad on here till I play it myself. I can spare £25 as I bought this with vouchers I won at work, so not bothered if its pap.

Well yeah, like you said, you can't really compare.

If we take performance out the equation and just consider visuals, Crysis maxed absolutely blitzes Far Cry 2 maxed.

Don't get me wrong though, it still looks great; and Ubisoft have done well performance wise. It seems to run great on both high end and mid end systems while still looking good.

Perhaps!

True, we are talking about weapons picked up in Africa so they aren't exactly gunna be squeaky clean but even so the dirty textures still don't look all that good - its very weak.

As for the pulling bullets out of you all the time and fixing the vehicles easily - given FC2 has these 'safe houses' you would think that if you got seriously wounded that you might have to return to one to get patched up etc ... add a little more emphasis on being sneaky and not getting caught!

I'm glad that I am not so anal about graphics as a lot of you are on here because I wouldn't be able to enjoy any game at all. :)

yeah exactly. crysis messed up peoples heads. far cry 2 comes out with amazing graphics but not on par with crysis and they complain. on the other hand if far cry 2 had graphics as good as crysis they would complain because they cant run it. whatever, the game is amazing and its not linear contrary to crysis which gives you an illusion of freedom while the game is completely linear.

all you buggers moaning about being shot from miles away should go and play the original ghost recon or operation flashpoint

you would be happily walking along and WHAM you get a bullet between the eyes from a goat herder 3 miles away! more often than not you could see an indistinct group of pixels and that would be all you saw before you are looking at the sky flat on your back..even hiding in bushes didnt help
