1 year, 11 Months...

I fixed it by replacing the X-Clamp. The extra pressure was enough to do it, didn't need overheating.

However, now I want it to break again (have reverted back to the original fittings) but it's not having it - yet :D

What was hard about fixing it then?

The only issue I ever had was putting the crap torsion clamps back on if I wanted to revert the mod, is that what you're referring to?

Oh yeah, nothing hard about the process physically, complete doddle.

Getting a now working 360 to RROD again though (i.e. go back to the state it was in when I received it) is proving tricky. My fix, however temporary, is proving too good :o

I have noticed this too, i got a message from a friend who got a RROD as soon as he bought fable 2, he hadn't played his 360 for a while. My theory is because the days are getting colder the temperature change between off and under load will be far greater which will put more stress on the components due to expansion and contraction.

To be fair the cooling air entering the console has dropped by the same amount so the temperature difference between on and off should be similar regardless of ambient air temps.

Lucky *******! : (

My launch 360 died 2 days ago with GPU Failure (Screen went green .. then gone, no output at all) .. no red rings, no error messages.. just no output.

Gonna cost me £60 to get it repaired or buy a new one =( Freaking sucks, why cant i get a common fault? :(

I had the exact same thing. Was lucky that I had 10 days of my warranty left

Thats would cost me nothing to get repaired, because I would lie and tell them I had 3 reds. I would send it off and it would be repaired and replaced for free. If they asked, which they won't i'd lie and say it had 3 reds when I sent it off and why are you trying to con me again after selling me a dud.

Just give it to dannyjo;)

I should be on heroes as a character with the extraordinary powers of borking 360's.

Just say it had 3 lights, use my picture if you like to prove it :p

They're not likely to argue, considering the massive amount that it happens.

Yeah, this happened to me after playing a air combat demo for an hour on my Xbox around May time.

I now own a PS3. Although I do miss playing Halo 3 for some reason even though it was average single player.

i seen a few guides on the clamp, some use 1 washer underneath the board because with 2 it will hit the metal casing but a lot use 2 washers what do you guys recommend?

1 spring washer on the underside, 1 metal and 1 nylon on the chip side (although in truth, providing they are the right size it doesn't really matter).

My son's after one for chrimbo and I'm so keen to get him one but really hate the idea of a major pressie failing, I do appreciate it's an ongoing and long running issue. has anyone any idea if time is a factor i.e you'll get 6-12 months before it's likely to go belly up or is it merely pot luck as it seems ?

It seems to be better in newer consoles, but still ouccurs.

My launch console went after about 2 years, and then again 11 months on.

The repair and replacement coverage is pretty good, so I wouldn't let this influence your decision. I'm sure your son will enjoy it as a gift as much with this known issue as he would if it didn't occur.

Buy it, and enjoy it until it goes, then get it repaired, and continue enjoying it. :)
