DELL XPS M1530

It was from the outlet. I saw loads of better spec m1530s on there but none of them had the particular size screen I wanted. The 1440 x 900 screens are like rocking horse excrement on the outlet site. In the end I just settled for this one as it had the screen I wanted and a reasonable amount of ram & HD. I can always upgrade the cpu later.
Besides, its only for the missus and she's only gonna be playing WOW on it anyway.

Got my M1530 on Saturday and the hard drive has a habit of clicking intermitently when in use. Is that usual?

Mine does that - don't know if it common though

It is a common issue, that link should help, I'm exchanging mine for a Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD3200BEKT)
if it arrives today :D

Any opinions on whether now is a good time to get an XPS 1530 (they're set to begin phasing the line out in the near future by all accounts in favour of a new Studio XPS product line)?

Are the current UK specs and pricing high for what you get (is the hardware dated as a few seem to be claiming)?

Is it likely that Dell UK will increase the discounts on the current XPS lines (to clear existing stock) as the swap date is reached (is it worth waiting to nearer the time to make a purchase if prices are going to be reduced dramatically)?

So has anyone stuck a 7,200RPM drive in this *pokes Tweakinfreak*?

I'm tempted, as it seems that the only thing holding me back here is the disk, so was wondering if the faster disk really makes a difference?
And also how much effect is has on the battery life?

Thanks :)

I phoned up and changed the default 250GB 5200rpm HDD to a 160GB 7200rpm HDD - she then offered me a 200GB 7200 for the same price :)

My 1530 should arrive on Monday. Anyone put Vista x64 on theirs? I checked the Dell site and there aren't any x64 drivers, so wonder if anyone had any problems?

I have :D

Pop over to notebookreview.com and there is a thread with all the drivers you need, mine runs perfect on Vista 64bit Ultimate...

Very pleased!

Excellent, thanks for that (downloading them all now). Did you do anything special to get it installed? I'm hoping it'll be as easy as my old work Vostro - pop the disk in, install OS, install drivers and job done.

It is that easy, I had mine wiped and loaded within 2 hours of getting home and unboxed :)

I upgraded the hard drive yesterday, which has helped performance along nicely

If you got any more questions post away, I'll try and help where I can ;)

Any one have heat problems with there laptop, mine hit 99c after like 2 hours of light gaming and its at 80c with 43% load right now running at 1.2ghz im really worried, when it was at 99c it change to 320Mhz with 8x40. Thanks for any help. Also right now even though its at 80c i can bearly hear the fan with miniumal background noise, im just in my bedroom with no one here and no music on. I was thinking to get a progarm to increase the fan speed my self and see if that helps.

Thanks for any help

i don't think any apps can control the fan on the 1530. Having said this, my fan spins up every now and then, and i never get over 60c in anything.

You should call Dell, as this is not normal at all mate, fan might not be working, who knows.

ohh Thanks im gonna call them tomorrow i think its closed now. When i first boot my computer its at 38c but it quickly goes up and takes a long time to come back down so i think its a fan problems since on my pc its drops stright some like 50c under full to 30c when i finish the benchmark.

Got it Monday, had Vista x64 on there within the hour without any problems. Quite impressed by it - have spent more time on it so far than on my desktop! :)

After updating my Bois to A11 everything is now fine, if games running i have 38c which is a 60-70c drop. I advise you all to upgrade as it keeps the fan spinning at slow even with a small amount of load.

Some people over at laptop review forum reported a temp rise after updating the BIOS?

May do a test for myself and see
