BBC Issue apology over Ross/Brand 'Prank'

if you think shes gone in the paper just to make money then your daft. shes gone in the paper to try and get some justice for what they did to her grandfather. id be just as appauled if someone did that to my elderely grandad.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Also, I paraphrase from a local paper 'the daughter is distressed at putting her family through this' through what?!

Editor's fault tbh - Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand are always on the edge as to what's acceptable most of the time... they just do what they do and make a programme and then it's down to the editor to cut it as they see fit to broadcast...

The prank call wasn't that bad in and of itself, but broadcasting it was stupid.
This.
It's like owning a sword, but not bothering to keep it in it's sheath, then when it cuts someone by accident blaming it on the swordmaker.

I really like Brand, I've followed his career since way before he became famous again, intimate £5 gigs at The Soho Theatre and the like.
There's no doubt he's talented, intelligent and self-deprecating, but the media paint him to be something he's not, there isn't a malicious bone in his body.
He can be misguided and tactless, but there is never the intention to offend, unless he is retorting to undeserved abuse.

Watch his old series 'Re:Brand' if you don't believe me (if you can find it), as a series that approaches taboos head on, there's never been anything like it before or since.
It's just a shame his heroin use at the time taints his handling of the issues in some episodes, but it's compelling viewing.

Georgina appears as Voluptua in the burlesque troupe Satanic *****. The girls perform as a gothic entertainment group that promises “cheerleader massacre, voodoo sacrifice, vampire brutality and much much more”.

but her doing this is a ok!

I love this from another local rag:

Last year he [Ross] joked at the British Comedy Awards that his salary made him worth "1,000 BBC journalists" -- a remark that came shortly after the Corporation announced 2,000 redundancies among its news staff.
lolz

I must listen to what was said tonight so I can comment....can't believe how big this story has become!

There's more going on here than just a simple prank call that was in poor taste. The debate has moved on to the manner in which the BBC regulates itself, which given recent scandals and what not, could be up for review. Of course, a healthy amount of this backlash could also be attributed to the anger some (if not many) feel about the BBC shelling out mountains of dosh to divisive characters such as Brand and Ross.

so youd just take it in your stride if your parent/grandparent got publically embarassed infront of millions by a ****** for no reason whatsoever ?

Do you honestly beleive that to be the case?

She is milking it for everything she possibly can.

95% of the people in this country hadn't even known it had happened until it all kicked off over a week after the event.

Why are people missing the point that they verbally abused a 78 year old man for "fun" if someone said that about a family member you would be livid.

Why it was aired and why they said it needs to be the looked into, respect was needed and there was none, not even in the pathetic apology they did and Brand going on about the daily mail who ran the story saying and he still wouldnt apologies like a normal person.

I don't see how it's distressing, the worst I would do is mock their comedic skills. But then again I'm extremely noncholant.

I don't think so. If this whole episode is so distressing for the individuals involved, and that is the problem, why is it all over the media? Is the granddaughter alleviating her grandfathers supposed anguish by talking to the press?

Its the Public that have complained.

this is what i mean. its a disgrace

I'm just listening to the recording now. It's not that bad.

Looks like the media are hyping it up to hell like they did with the "almost Morgue" situation in the Lake District last weekend. It was an overnoght event! Of course 1500 runners would be unaccounted for.
