Editor's fault tbh - Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand are always on the edge as to what's acceptable most of the time... they just do what they do and make a programme and then it's down to the editor to cut it as they see fit to broadcast...
The prank call wasn't that bad in and of itself, but broadcasting it was stupid.
This.
It's like owning a sword, but not bothering to keep it in it's sheath, then when it cuts someone by accident blaming it on the swordmaker.
I really like Brand, I've followed his career since way before he became famous again, intimate £5 gigs at The Soho Theatre and the like.
There's no doubt he's talented, intelligent and self-deprecating, but the media paint him to be something he's not, there isn't a malicious bone in his body.
He can be misguided and tactless, but there is never the intention to offend, unless he is retorting to undeserved abuse.
Watch his old series 'Re:Brand' if you don't believe me (if you can find it), as a series that approaches taboos head on, there's never been anything like it before or since.
It's just a shame his heroin use at the time taints his handling of the issues in some episodes, but it's compelling viewing.
