95% of the people in this country hadn't even known it had happened until it all kicked off over a week after the event.

I think people have the right to be miffed, lets face it if you pay for a TV licence you have the right. What is it £120 a year, lot of money for people to pay out to people that cant do there job properly and civil.

I'm so sick of people banging on about their 'right' to do something these days.

ITS MY RIGHT TO BITCH ABOUT SOMETHING I DIDNT EVEN LISTEN TO ORIGINALLY etc.

"I have the right to buy my council house"

lol, calm down. Its only a pants prank that is in all the news! :D

Thing is people that would never have listened to the show would have found out about it by the BBC making a news story out of it.

Most not infact about the actual broadcast though. Two people originally complained about it, other people then read/saw the stories in the news about it and then like sheep, complained.

Regardless 18,000 people is enough to warrant an investigation.

Its about time as Ross was getting fat to big for his boots.

Just like Chris Evans who got sacked from BBC Radio 1.

Now working for BBC2 he is grateful to be allowed to broadcast as he certainly doesn't do it for the money.

Ross abused his position and now he's paying.

Why are people missing the point that they verbally abused a 78 year old man for "fun" if someone said that about a family member you would be livid.

Why it was aired and why they said it needs to be the looked into, respect was needed and there was none, not even in the pathetic apology they did and Brand going on about the daily mail who ran the story saying and he still wouldnt apologies like a normal person.

The apology is classic Brand. I have no doubt whatsoever that the personal apology to Mr Sachs was sincere and heartfelt because Mr Sachs is the only person who could be truly offended by the broadcast. The 10,000+ people who complained can't possibly be offended (other than by the "robust language). Brand's *public* apology reflects his feelings towards those 10,000+ people, views that are shared in this thread ;)

She said her grandfather was "really upset and says he wants the whole situation to end".
So she assists in ending the situation by giving dozens of interviews and posing for tabloid photoshoots?
Yup, that'll knock it on the head.

I think people are missing the point, that this wasnt some random innocent old man they randomly called.. -

Andrew Sachs was fully aware of who was going to be calling him, and what they are like, he agreed to this, but failed to attend. (he did not agree to the actual content.)

Andrew Sachs himself played a role in portraying Spaniards to be idiots. Hardly a man to take the moral high ground. He did a excellent job of it, Manwell was funny, just as Ross and Brand are.

change to "its my right to bitch about total crap that im paying money each year for" and yea i agree...

"they verbally abused a 78 year old man for "fun"

They didn't verbally abuse him at all. It was on a tape recording. I bet the chances of the guy standing there and listening to the whole recordings is pretty small.

Imagine him standing there next to the answer machine "oh god, I'm being so verbally abused there's nothing I can do! If only there was some kind of delete message button to press"

Ross has since personally apologised with hand delivered letter and flowers. It's not clear what Brand has done in the way of a personal apology, however Sachs has accepted apologies from both of them.

Why it was aired is more of an issue that what was aired. At the end of the day mistakes were made and apologies have been issued and accepted. People make mistakes and life goes on.

This whole farce just makes me die a little inside.

What a ridiculous over reaction.

Probably explains the reason half the world is in continuous conflict... people get too irate over VERY trivial matters.

She's on the verge of attracting kerb crawlers anyway.. if she doesn't want to embaress/upset her grandad then maybe she should change her demenour. And if she can't handle media attention, stop hanging around with famous people!

It's obvious the older generation can't handle this generations humour. Their whole lives have been based around a boring war that you never hear the end of
