ATI 58xx series

Ooorrrr..... ATI are playing mind games with us and the 58xx series is actually going to kill nvidia once and for all.
1600 shaders @ 1Ghz
2048mb GDDR5 @ 5Ghz @ 512Bit

*Bursts into violent crying and jumps off a cliff*

Now who would leak out "false" underperforming information about their new card? That just wouldn't be fair.

I think I'll be holding onto my 4870 until next year, buying anything else would be a massive waste of money unless I could throw my money away and besides, I'd like to have a DX11 card so at least I can watch DX11 games in sideshow mode when they come out if they ever do :D

Never say that. I said that when I bought my EVGA 8800 GTS. Three months later it was sold the week before the 8800GT came out.

Same again, I thought that would last me for a year but I sold that a week before the 4850/4870 came out.

So if I can still get £140-£150 for my 4870 and a stonking 5870 comes out for £200 ish I will be very tempted to swap it again (even though I don't need any extra performance)

Got to admit I found it hilarious once it was confirmed the 4800 series had 800 shaders, being everyone was like, 'there's no way that it'll compete with the magnificent beast that is GT200,' before hand, as they were under the assumption it was going to have 480 shaders and be barely any faster than the 3870.

Well I cant see myself wanting to give up the 4870 until next year unless some better card comes along that is worth the move and does not cost any more than the 4870, it just seems like at the moment nothing is worth going to now, not even the new GTX 2** cards from NV will be worth it or anything from AMD until the next gen, the only thing that will be worth it is 4850X2 IF it costs less then 50 quid to move to it including P&P costs on both cards.

I'm still kind of surprised that the 4870 is over twice as fast as a 3870 and faster than a 3870X2, just I thought the 3870 was not much slower than an 8800GT and I know the 4870 is no where near twice as fast as the 8800GT aswel, tbh I think the best purchase was still an 8800GT, should have kept it really 4870 is great, but its not that impressive, maybe should have held on and waited for the cheapo GTX280's that where around :\

I did a funny! YAY! :D
But yeah... In all seriousness, this (to me) reeks of ATI's "leaks" (pun not intended (but maybe intended if it made you giggle like a... well... I wont go there)) again.

512-bit memory sounds like overkill but you never know. Don't forget the fact that the new fabrication at 40nm with a smaller die will mean that will be able to make the chips much cheaper. Maybe a 384-bit would seem more realistic.

You're probably very very correct.
But also bearing in mind ATI's latest misinformation and the fact nehalem is probably gonna be able to handle much more bandwidth from all directions anything is possible.

EDIT: "Dont quote me on that" - Me
