BBC Issue apology over Ross/Brand 'Prank'

Time to close the thread, the Brand/Ross sympathizers only see this simplistically as a humor/dont be offended/its not the worse thing in the world point of view, which is parallel to the real issue of lewd misuse of the phone from a place of work that would have anyone else sacked without question perspective, threads going nowhere now

So this phone prank isn't ok but the countless other pranks that are broadcast are ok?

There are more important things in this world than a comedian ringing up some old guy and a movie critique saying he ****** his granddaughter. Well thats how i feel but maybe for you people who are all for getting them sacked this is an important issue really look around you there are far worse things happening.

Which "far worse" things exactly? And which of them is the BBC able to resolve?

This falls within the BBC's remit, so they should sort it out. Sure, there's a credit crunch and wars, but they're not the BBC's responsibility.

I think the suspention was a token gesture by the BBC, nothing will come of it except they come back to work on Monday morning after having a few days off.

I hope so, it's all just completely overblown. Editor's should've known better. Presenters' were just being themselves, and i love them for it :)

The news as whole from the bbc has become (maybe allways was) but I have noticed it has become very biased as many news agency's are.

The BBC has a duty to report a fair account, showing equal views from both sides. Which very rarely happens. Take the the current countries we have invaded, rarely do they interview or make significant note of the damage done to the innocent familys/economies/mass loss of lives etc of these disadvantaged nations.

The BBC isn't the worst at all, they do a reasonable job and I do feel offer great value for money. no commercial breaks is awesome. They do cater for many interest groups. They can easily resolve the news side by reporting fairly and accurately and not getting involved in silly tabloid sensationalism.

Nothing will come of this - and I'm appaled that Brown has jumped on the bandwagon. They'll have a nice relaxing, paid week off, then come back to their jobs.....

I'm more upset that we as licence payers are now going to be missing out on what was looking to be a good episode of friday night with Jonathan Ross.

The whole issue is a storm in a teacup, and has been grossly overblown.

They made a mistake and went a bit too far, they're not the first to do so. Sure they should probably get a telling off but this is just getting plain silly.

Agree with that, Friday night with Jonathan Ross then Jools Holland is a good nights viewing, damn your eyes BBC :(

LOL which part of the core issue don't some of you get ?

It is an offence to carry out lewd phone calls on the UK's PSTN, add to this the fact they were left as voice messages and also aired on the radio, all other factors should be irrelevant

Whether it was fun, a prank or for real is largely beside the point, the BBC as the nations main media/news/entertainment company that is funded by joe public has a duty to conduct itself to use the PSTN within its regulations, if they are seen to not give a damn about PSTN misuse then what message would that send out

When such use is breached like this, from within the BBC then they simply cannot condone it and they should be sacked, its really that simple

It's like saying 2 staff from an ISP who send out a virus or spam to a customer for a laugh should be let off because their are worse things to worry about and it was a laugh at the end of the day

All those who constantly claim overreaction, I guarauntee if you were to do this from work tomorrow you would be on a disciplinary at a minimum or even sacked, it is not a trivial offence, hell if some of you are posting in this thread from work you could prob be sacked, let alone making lewd telephone calls

Then why aren't the police involved?

Good grief get a grip man.

If I did it from work yes I would be sacked. But then again I am not a comedian that has a chat-show on the radio.
