Empire total war on steam

The devs are responsible for signing a deal with the publishers.
The publishers are then responsible for.. publishing the game, which includes deciding the price.

The publishers are the ones who decide the pricing of the game, not the developers - and it's not like many small dev houses will be able to pick and choose their publisher, they'll take the first they can get, and sign over the publishing rights. From then on, the dev's have absolutely no say in how the game gets published.

Games like CoD4 are so expensive on Steam as Activision have deals with other UK distributers (eg the rainforest), hence inflate the price when selling via Steam.

steam bypasses the publisher. any developer can put a game to steam without needing a publisher. thats the beauty of it.

Not if they have a contract with a Publisher already that has given full rights to the Publisher. If so, then the publisher will decide how much they will charge over Steam if they allow the distribution of the game at all!

And that's why all the games in the "Indie" tab are so lovely and cheap :)

Thus proving that Steam games aren't inherently expensive, just the triple-A titles published by fools.

Not a good deal, rome total war gold edition can be had for 5-7 euros in at least 3 retailers here....

No point in pre-ordering now when it's out in feb...
Prolly just as cheap for a retail box, but I'll have to see what protection it uses...

Offtopic a bit:
Nope. I was into cossacks a lot though. :D
Do you know how to get it working with an 8800 on vista x64 ?

A while ago they didn't support geforce 8800 cards any more (according to CDV forums) and I couldn't start either european wars or back to war :(.
