Call of duty 4 over rated?

I've played all game types, i used to be in a clan who played hardcore s and d, they also used to ban the use of grenade launchers, and certain perks.

I think i have used the pro mod in the enemy down league, but i'm not too sure. Is it a mod you download or a server side mod.

I am not a fan of the UT3 engine really, it just about works for UT as it is so fast and intense but for more realistic games it just seems clunky and bloated if that is the word, like you are really fat lol.

It is probbaly because it is made for consoles. Crysis on the other hand feels loverly. Reminds me of the HL2 engine but better GFX.

I avoid too large servers though, 6v6 is best imo on most maps :).

agree with snowdog [for a change ;)]

cod 4 is great - jut not on big servers

best on restricted hardcore servers

no nade launchers, no marytrdom, no 3frag

a more enjoyable, tactical game

Love COD4 - single player was short but very good, and MP has lasted me around 85 hours so far. No more nade spam than any other fps to be honest - and hardly any compared to the likes of Quake or UT :)

seems like opinions are split. Seems like most people who played the early cod games, dont rate the modern game as highly. I do think each game has taken a step back in terms of gameplay and feel.

I dont think cod4 is a bad game i jsut dont think it is as good as the others. I might try this pro mod though see what its like.

Yes very overrated I can only stomach hardcore mode, I like games that actually require thought and skill not camping in a spot to get infinite choppers and air strikes.
And don't get me started on the grenades.

COD4 SP excellent, COD4 MP is awesome but you need to go to non public servers with a max of 10 v 10 to avoid constant airstrikes, copters and nade spams

Used to love COD and UO but recently re-visited them and the feel of the MP game and the gameplay just don't hold up for me, COD4 just plays and feels so almost perfectly well

Have you tried Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-42, highly recommended even if the visuals aren't amazing, gameplay is second to none and their are some awesome infantry only maps and nade spams etc aren't tolerated, at the risk of sounding cliche it's def the thinking mans WW2 online shooter

Personally I think COD4 is one of the best games I've ever played. Have completed the single player five or six times and spent countless hours online.

But each to his own.

You have hit the nail on the head.

Wonder how many here at OCUK would have a crack at UO again if someone with a decent server hosted UO for say 10 aside, despite recently giving it another go and not getting into it I'd def be up for a crack at it if enough are also up for it, or do some of you already use a good server (sorry for going off topic)

Agreed. RO is a great example of content over visuals.

For me personally I was shocked at how good it was...

Initially had the thought " aww another CoD game boooo ".

Then started seeing the great reviews and multiplayer stuff and eventually downloaded it (hold on!!) After playing the single player I was blown away by some of the little touches and generally level design.

Then my mates got the multiplayer and were loving that so I dicided to buy it so I could play the multiplayer! Happy to say one of the rare buys I didnt regret! ...Gotta admit I havent played it much recently but months back I was loving it!! Great game.

I have not played COD 4 since shortly after its release, its too arcadey etc. COD:UO i have not played for over a year, but what a game. If i had my PC setup (at my parents now, long stiory etc etc) i would certainly play it again. Great game.

RO is a superb example of how WW2 games should be. Tactics, bravery & teamwork.

Yeah this game was pretty much a simulation rather than arcadey which surely put people off.

I do remember finding it incredibly hard to get into and often wondering where that bullet came from. After a weekend playing it i was hooked.

Never before has a game given great satisfaction when you have managed to kill someone 200 yards away. Awesome stuff.

Just a shame that war games are all about spray & pray, abilities and nade fests, its about time it went back to skill & guile.

Thought CoD4 single player campaign was great and if you play it on veteran level to begin with then the 6hr campaign doesn't seem so short. Never played multi player so can't comment on it.
