How to become a vegetarian safely?

If i want mince then i can just cook one of my frozen shepards pies. I'm on about meat, not normal food!

Frozen shepherd's pies? Where are you getting them from? Are they shop made?

I swear, if you're talking about saving money while also buying ready meals, I will stab you with a sharpened USB plug.

It's easy. Just roast the bugger and eat that. When you've eaten a meal's worth, tear the rest to bits. Get stuck in with a decent knife and you'll get loads of meat off it. All the meat off it can then be used for other meals - risotto, curry, stir fry, etc. Boil the carcass to make some stock and then use that as a base for soup. That should be well on the way to 3 or 4 meals right there.

+1-the meat will last you 2 meals (at least), the stock another 2. You can also get some pretty good fresh fish like sardines (fresh ones are really nice, and easy to cook) or trout dirt cheap.

care to explain. 5 meals for £4 at Tesco! I'm pretty sure thats saving money!

Yes, but they're manky at best.

I got some Tesco value corned beef hash, and that's 70p. I expected it to be vile, but it's OK. So I beat you by 50p :)

Iceland £1.50 "takeaway" stuff and 40p microwaveable rice from B&M works much better. Beef in ale gravy with swede, that sort of thing. Not at all bad for ready meals on a low budget.

If you choose alcohol over meat then you will turn into a peice of meat, when you die from liver damage.

Harsh but alcohol is never the answer :p

It sounds like you're wanting to become a meat avoider rather than a vegetarian. Vegetarians don't eat stuff like gelatine (no Haribo for us etc). A good and cheap source of non-meat protein is tofu from Chinese supermarkets.

Meat is expensive. The reality is that we evolved to consume it and our bodies need it despite what the lettuce munchers claim. Another reality is that we all eat too much meat too often.

My family has dramatically cut back on meat consumption lately. We do it by not eating meat two or three days per week. Alternatively, and I believe I am right in saying this but I advise you to check it, on average you need a chunk of meat about the size of a matchbox every day to stay healthy.

Look at the price of kippers - less than 70p for a big plateful of lovely meaty protein :)

Your stomach is a fine chemical factory for rendering down bits of animals. It doesn't need best quality muscle meat. Look at much cheaper stuff like liver, kidneys, heart (delicious actually!), brains (rather you than me), tripe (yuk), oxtails (delicious), hocks (wonderful roasted), lungs (for the dog), sausages (and all the horrors contained inside), blood sausage (too rich for me) .. you get the idea.

People are too squeamish these days and think it is beneath them to eat anything but best quality muscle meat. An american friend of mine once said to me "We don't eat organs".
