Nope - wrong. The best ever Mercedes for built quality were the previous generation Mercedes SL and the S Class of the same era. Absolutely bulletproof cars and a byword for ultimate quality.

I was trying to argue MrLoL's point that the era of merc being discussed has terrible quality/reliability and you come along and start pulling extremeties(if thats a word) out your bum.

I am just talking based on personal expereience of a E270 w211

I didnt say you said anything 'totally absurd' just a bold statement which I felt was untrue. The W211 E Class is not 'as good as it gets' in terms of MB quality, thats all. Mercedes have made better cars in the past and will make better cars in the future - the new C for example with Mercs improved quality ethos gives it a run for its money and its a class below and it's doubtful whether any manufacturer in this age of building things to a price will ever top the levels of quality acheived in, say, a 1993 Mercedes SL500.

So get over it and stop dragging this out.

i was just making an opinion (albeit a bit qualified, in terms of the car being discussed), like you are.

Hold fire here digisatman, step back, and take another look.

You said, it's 'as good as it gets in terms of a benz'. Some older Mercedes have BETTER build quality and reliability than the current ones, and that is widely known as a fact. Now you're saying the current E Class is, in effect, the best?.

What i just said is similar to what Fox said. Am I speaking crackpot?

Why do things like this always spiral out of control on here? Of course the W211 isnt the best, i would say that my CLS is better built than the W211, as is the W221 S-class. Yes quality took a slight dive on early 00's C's and E's (and to a lesser extent, S's too) but the SL remained largely unaffected throughout.

Anyway, W211, great car. I'd have a W220 S-class over one, though.

Because I have a sickening and irrational hatred of BS being spoken as fact! When I get told i'm wrong (with proof, mind) i say sorry and own up. Some guys just go down fighting looking sillyer and sillyer....which I like to see
