Florida about to go Obama - 330+ is going to happen. McCain's concession happening right now, he's a lovely guy and a worthy opponent. Well done Obama.

You're the one making racist-generalisations. YOU prove it. Or gtfo.

How is telling it how it is in anyway racist? In reality, you're the one generalising by playing the "OMG Racist" card? I've got nothing against the guy, I just wanted him to win on his merit alone and not because he's "of colour"! Then again, when it comes to the majority of the US electorate, common sense doesn't figure too highly.

I think actually on the whole McCain is sound, the people who have been advising him though are something else.

I don't disagree that his skin colour has a lot to do with some of the votes that went for him, they say something like 90% of the black votes went to him. But it is no different than all those in the deep south that votes McCain because of his skin colour. The difference this time is those that enough people saw past the skin colour and voted the correct president in this election.

No, but I'd rather someone be elected to preside over "The Policeman of the World" on their actual policies and not because he's of a dusky appearance!

What
The fact that he is a very intelligent, successful and assertive individual with a vision has nothing to do with it? It's 'just' because his African American!!
That comes across as a very pathetic and ignorant comment, with some pretty racist connotations! Grow up!

I thought his ethnicity didn't matter.

It's the FACT that race DID matter, Derrrrrrrrrrr .. keep up child:rolleyes:

On every level america will be changed by this result - its impact will be so profound that the nation will never be the same

I don't think he, nor anyone else, knows how right, and yet how wrong that is - not just from a US perspective, but a global one.

The fun is just about to start :)

I hope you all remember this post - because I will be linking back to it.

Great speech from McCain - very impressed actually, until he mentioned his VP - who reminds me of Peggy from King of the Hill...

ps3ud0

He fought well, but he was on a downward slope from the beginning, Palin didn't help by any means.

I'll miss Tina Fey though.

No offence - but you havent actually said anything that profound - leave the philosophy to the experts ;):p

I was really impressed by McCain's speech, I actually felt really sorry for him as he does seem to know what he's doing. If it wasn't for Sarah Palin, I don't think he would have made a bad president at all.

I do agree that a lot of people have voted for Obama just because of the colour of his skin. I really hope that they have done the right thing, I wish I had paid more attention during the course of campaigning to know more about it myself.

Winning because he was black? is that really a bad thing? what if he was a republican, What about all the other presidents who won because they were white? Any minority who came to be president will have the race card hanging over their head, until they've had a few "of colour" presidents. It's a step forward, maybe the next black, yellow, brown or white president wont have to argue wether he only won because of his colour.

Fantastic speech from McCain. He's always been fastidiously honourable (remember the Arab incident) but if he'd spoken like that more often the result might have been slightly different - instead he often seemed to look a little uneasy.

As for the skin colour issue, it works both ways - many will have voted for because of it, many will have been reviled by the idea and voted against. A lot of Americans seem to vote the same way in every election ad nauseum, hence the closeness of the outcome, but there are certain sections of society that have found their voice in this election - and those are the young and black. However, I still think the media have done their usual job and blown it out of all proportions.

I think thats what some of the race points are, Andrew1978...

Because he is black, he will have to work harder to prove that he wasnt elected because of his skin colour - considering where America is at the moment the next president already had a tough job, Obama has it even tougher...

I don't choose to believe that it is as simple as winning because he is black, I don't believe it is as much of a novelty, so to speak, as some people reckon. By the same token, I think it is OTT how some black Americans that are being interviewed on the BBC (good work BBC, very useful) describe how they are 'finally free'. All that is doing is reinforce the original idea that he's won because he's black. It's not really about that at all. They have chosen the right man to be their next president. He happens to be black. The fact that he happens to be black should secondarily and rightfully signify cultural and social change in American history.

Hahaha the old bloke being interviewed is funny - hes been sniffing something ;)

'I dont know - I dont know who you are'

Cheers Doohickey - didnt catch the name... :D
