correct way to deal with this? mp3 on bus?

Hi all,

On the local bus today as it was raining and so walking was out the question. Some lad, 18-19 year old, ipod in hand, music on so loud everyone on the bus can hear what the words are.

The guy was sat on the seat next to me, looking ahead and would not make eye contact with anyone, wonder why.

Now, in the past i would have just battered him, today i was thinking about it, but my anger managment course kicked in and i just ran through the judge asking me why i dangled the guy out the window by his feet from the bus just as his music is too loud and it did seem a little OTT, but i was tempted.

Now, if i could buy a directional epm gun or would a pair of wire cutters be allowed to snip the headphone leads, or would me siting next to him with a louder heavy metal song be allowed...

Sometimes people amaze me with how selfish they can be. or maybe its me in a morning not being a morning person.

And they want me to catch the bus more lol! no thanks.

Wait a year for him to get tinnitus.

Start singing along to his music. Be expressive enough and he'll soon be embarrassed into silence :p

If all you can here is a thumping baseline get out a couple of pens and start drumming along on his thigh.

Just casually rest your hand on his knee, after the hand is comfortable there and the other chap is feeling, well, less than comfortable, sort of turn your body inwards toward him.

See what he does.

Well, it was in my nature in my younger days not to talk, just do, so i ahve got easier going over time. Im not a morning person, i like my walk to work as i need to loose weight and enjoy this, only 5 miles to work so takes an hour. Had to get the bus as its pouring down, if i take the car its £7 a day which is too much.

I think maybe i did over react, but again, 7am in the morning is not a good time for me lol, im a night person but work demands i work 8:30 till 6pm so got to get up.

Next tme, i shall, as i should have done, tap him, gentely, on the shoulder and ask him to turn it down a little, seems a sensable way to do it.

anyways, ive had my 2nd cup of coffe now so im approachable again lol. just hope i can walk home to remove some stres of work :)

Maybe he doesn't realize people can hear the music?
I would definitely go with the polite approach, but if he looks a bit shifty, just sit away from him.

seriously man lighten up, if you're overweight as you said above, and you have stress levels like this your blood pressure is gonna be monumental.

Morning person or not, thinking about hitting someone over sound leakage is waaaaaay OTT.

The whole hitting him thing is a bit ott, but other than that I can sympathise.

I dont understand the mentality of these people. If I am on a bus listening to an Ipod I instantly turn it down to a decent level out of simple respect, and the fact that i dont wanna draw attention to myself.

some people are just morons. accept it :(

Rite...How funny this thread is :p

When I was younger, I used to have my music on the bus to school, and that was not at all loud....however people could hear it, probably my pants headphones.

As for hitting him...baha, why? You would only be in the wrong, and to say that is just stupid.

He's looking blanky forward....what do you want him to do nod his head at everyone while jiggling about to the music? :p

Yes, some people have they're music too loud, yes some people want to hit others because of it, for some reason.

Your not a morning person, fair enough, but that isn't the kids/guys fault is it?

Calm down, have your coffee before the bus, or actually, take a flask on the bus! :p I used to like getting the bus to work, it was a damn site cheaper as well.

I've often asked people to turn their music down. Often they do.

Not so much in London tho :/

Why don't you put your mp3 player on so you can't hear him? :p

Hah! I dare not do it in London :p Unless the person looked 'normal / non-psychotic'...

If I was sat directly next to them then maybe...It's probably more cause the op doesn't like the music :p

lol - i guess your all morning people then and dont get as upset as easily as i use to do lol. Well, i sat there, looking at him, well staring at him all the way for 5 miles and not once did he even look anywhere but straight ahead. he knew it was too loud but hey, he doesnt care, if anyone says anything he gets upset his human rights have been violated... grrr.

Time to lighten up as you say lol. and i promise to put the wire cutters back in the tool box before i go home again. I just find some people very make me wonder if they really do care abot anythign but themselfs and things liek this just bring home to me why i dont get the bus 9/10 times any more. I feel like saying something, but i know one wrong word and im going to go OTT.... so i sit there and dream about what i would like to do.. hehe... i need more coffee in the morning i guess to calm me down.

is also true the music was of the hippityhoppty type, normal rubish. It sems ok to play music as loud as you wish, yet not ok for people to make you turn it down... i find this attitdue very odd and funny. why cant i sit on the bus in quiet, why do i need to put up with this type of music when i dont want it, maybe i should sit behind them and sneeze all over him, all the time and say to him if you dont like it, tough... to me its the same thing.

its OTT i agree, and this thread was written in some jest this morning expressing my views as far right as i could, but still, why sit there playing music so loud you can hear it down stairs never mind up stairs where he is sat! that to me is asking for a good kicking.

It's about the music then :p Not really rubbish, each to they're own, I used to have a very narrow mind towards music when I was younger, however now I've broadened my music types a tad.

I can see why it's annoying, and your rite...He can turn up his music, after all, no one has told him about it? And he finds it a comfortable volume obviously.

If it is indeed as bad as you say it is (Although I think it's more due to the fact your not actually used to hearing it in the mornings, as other people on the bus are probably on it everyday) then ask him to turn it down a notch...if he says "no yada yada" then fine..You've tried? What more can you do..no point in twatting him over the head over music volume.
