The Zombie Invasion Strategy Thread

Bit random, but who's gonna be honest and say they've actually thought about having supplies in their house that are long term supplies for either this scenario or the after effects of some nuclear type mess ? Despite thinking about the scenario I've yet to go this far but again it's a case of never say never :D

ie medical, tinned or dry food that lasts for ages and ages etc

I have enough food to last us about 4 weeks if this thing happened, but it's not really a conscious decision :p My strategy would always include a mechanism to get more food though.

How would you go for supplies? My work place has an area that we could quickly get a minibus in and out of easily for raiding parties.

Live several hundred yards from a big superstore, I've already earmarked the neighbors X5 ;) (disclaimer - only kidding lol)

I've earmarked the three defenders down the road. Easy to fix and plenty of ground clearence if you need to run any down :D:cool:

Can the old style zombies climb stairs? I mean, it wouldnt seem like it from the way they are walking, but they can run and not climb over things.

That would make a huge difference to your chances of survival.

I wonder how accessible chainmail is? A decent chainmail chest piece would offer reliable protection, especially if it covered the arms and neck also. It would be one of my choices of garment when on the move/scavenging.

What about the location of your base? Personally I would use a prison. Got to be the most secure buildings in the UK - Especially an old one like HMP Leeds.

Huge walls all around, a double gated area for vehicles to enter/exit safely without compromising security, plenty of space fo supplies, built so areas can be sealed off if they are compromised.

All I can say is that I'd hope to be in a survival group with people like yourselves who would be organised, resourceful and structured, not some muppets who either lost it, were stupid or a total liability

Luckily, I live in Colchester, which as most people know, is a garrison town. Therefore my first objective would be to gather basic supples, then jump in Dad's Navara (Effective 4x4 vehicle, necessary in my eyes) and get over to the garrison, and then pray that the army have set up some sort of defence over there.

One of my mates (might have been megahurtz) came up with THE most genius idea to take refuge; an oil-rig. Would have plenty of supples, and no zombie is ever gonna get there, unless they learn to swim. If all else fails, an island is your best shot, zombies' main weakness seems to be water, as they can't swim whatsoever, so something like Isle of Man/Wight or the Channel Islands would be a good idea.

Depending on the type of zombie as well though. And how the virus spreads, for instance, rage virus in 28 days/weeks later, thats through any blood-blood connection, whereas deadset, you actually had to get bit, and it took about 1/2 hours, whereas rage virus was practically instant.

I live near a farm where they have a large collection of shotguns and combine harvesters. The combine really would be my weapon of choice! :D

A combine harvester is a good shout but i'd reckon the mechanism would jam up after a few zombies entered as they are only designed to cut down light plants.

This is an awesome thread btw, i love zombies and dooms day senarios

yeah but what about the occupants??

Your either going to have to let a bunch of convicted criminals out to help you or your going to have an absolute shed load of zombies to clear out first!

You would probably be looking a small scottish island with no population or something remote like an oil rig. Large land masses would be a no no.

actually some new combines don't have the rotating cylinder on the front but massive horizontal cutting disks :D

there the ones at the farm down the road! :)

Anyone read The Day of the Triffids? One of my favourite books, and a massive influence on the whole Zombie genre. They go off to a farm and build an electric fence. It details lots of practicalities for surviving long-term :)

There was actually a zombie film where the zombies did learn to swim and entered an otherwise secure city, can't remember the film though now!

i'd probably set about creating a store on small uninhabited island/spot close to the mainland. i would steal more boats and moor them here, as well as stockpile food and resources.

Stockpiling food only works for a limited time, as it all has a shelf life!

Long term plans would be an island to grow your own food and live stock

Dead Set for me had me constantly thinking about what I'd do in that situation, for a starters there'd only be 1 possible way into the BB building complex on a day to day basis, every other would be made unuseable apart from 1 last resort exit, nominate 24*7 lookout shift rota, scour the area for anything that could be used as a weapon etc

Supermarket trip to fill the frickin' van, van would be literally backed up to the front door, windows up, doors locked, even loot some thick clothing for upper body for bite protection etc

Apart from the crapper no-one ever alone ever, always paired up

Double-check perimiter daily for any weaknesses

Roof lookouts through the day

Could go on ..........................

Surely the first thing to do is, before the there is even a zombie invasion, is to pack a bug out bag?

Which should include (stolen for wiki):
  • Enough food and water to last for seventy two hours. This includes:
  • 4 litres (1 gallon) of water per person per day, for washing, drinking and cooking.
  • ...spoil-free food.
  • ...water purification supplies.
  • ...cooking supplies.
  • ...cutlery and cups/dishes.
  • A first aid kit.
  • A disaster plan including location of emergency centers, rallying points, possible evacuation routes etc.
  • Professional emergency literature explaining what to do in various types of disaster, studied and understood before the actual disaster but kept for reference.
  • Maps and travel information.
  • Standard camping equipment, including sanitation supplies.
  • Clothes and bedding.
  • Enough medicine to last an extended evacuation period if, for example, one's home were destroyed.
  • Lighting (battery or crank operated torch/flashlight(s), glow sticks).
  • Firearm(s) and appropriate ammunition. - So in this country it probably means pellet guns. :p
  • Crowbar (offensive weapon, building/vehicle entry, etc.)
  • Valuable goods; gold & silver.
