The Chronicles of Spellborn - Next big MMO to be released - November 27th

I am the complete opposite. I would love a game that had no PvP what so ever as it is the only way you would get truly unique specialized classes. The chances of this happening anymore are slim.

You dont want a MMO then you want a online Co-Op game ;)

I love when game developers completely take me by surprise. I really didn't know anything about this. At all.

PVP is the main reason I play MMO's, I hate people who whinge about being attacked etc, and so no.. I wouldn't say its a bonus as I doubt I'm the only one who plays MMO's for this reason..

I play for PvP also. TCoS has a odd skill/spell system they are not all right there in the hud. Something about a combo system, where you use one skill/spell before you can use another.

Yea they calling a deck... bit weird, will have to see how it goes. I feel this game is going to be marmite.

Sounds like another Age of Conan.

Will be sticking with World of Warcraft, still the only good one out there... :o

I don't really care about it having fab graphics, it can have all the graphics it wants (LOTRO looks great) but it still fails in comparison to Warcraft!

Gotta love people judging games without even testing them!

Go make love to your truely astonishingly crappy wow grind fest and let us play other better games please thanks :)

Past experience so far has given me the right to judge new MMO's without testing them thanks!

Yeah ok, you play those 'better' games. What are they? Warhammer? Conan? Played them both, know what I prefer, I'll stick to my grind thanks.

Oh no I'll have to level either 70-80 or 55-80 (Death Knight) such a HUGE grind! :(:(

Thread resurrection!

Just wondering if anyone is going to be playing this at launch (i.e. can we get some coordination/cooperation going down?)

I think it will be fairly quiet in the beginning (due to no large-scale advertisement... yet) and so it might be a good idea to know some people beforehand.

It seems like it will be a good game for those bored of WoW, miffed off with WAR, afraid to ever touch again that which is AoC and are just looking for their next MMO hit. A few highlights:

  • Unreal Engine based
  • FPS MMO Style (a la Darkfall - you're the one doing the aiming)
  • No healing classes - every class/archetype has heals
  • Interesting classes that have purposes
  • Skill-based rather than gear-based (gear has no stats)
  • Fully customisable characters
  • FFA PVP servers (afaik)
  • Leveling = questing. Grinding won't get you anywhere.
  • PVP and PVE are mixed.
  • No more mindless PVE mobs - they can come in groups with their melee protecting their casters etc. (rather than running straight at you one at a time to mindlessly swing at you)

Most people who've beta tested/previewed seem to say it's a fairly good game. Although not one of the hard-hitters like WOW or WAR, it may well get quite a cult following!

So, who's interested? :p

P.S. THE GAME STARTS WITH A FREE TRIAL ZONE

Importantly it looks like they have reversed their initial decision to not have any Full PvP servers at release so that is a bonus. Although the regular servers will have PvP areas where players will need to enter in order to do certain things in game.

You, and carebears like you, are what have ruined MMORPG's slowly over the last 10 years.

Looks like you completely missed the point of his post.

He's saying its a good idea that they're putting PvP back in.

Hence "it's a bonus they've reversed their decision on PvP"

Anyway, I'm kinda interested in this but do I (or people in generally) really have time for another MMO in their life?

Small indy one in some respects and as such, i've fell in that trap before so won't dive in. Beta comments have been hit and miss, more bad than anything due to the time it takes them to fix things. Seem a very small developer.

Though love the idea, love how the world looks, love that Europeans won't get shafted for once and the yanks have to wait, haha, might play it just for that. But it's all down to whether they have the resources..

..Remember Saga of Ryzom?

I am another one that is pleased for a change that the game has been low key and slipped under the radar. Some developers have been guilty of hype but the worst culprits by far are the fanatical followers that make these games almost the point of their existence. I have seen it before so many times and recently with AOC and WAR when I politely raised my concerns early on and then to be scorned as an unbeliever.

I may be wrong on this, but a successful game now days also has to have a very strong PvE even though you may not think so due to the PvP players being the most vocal. That is why WOW is so successful because it has a rock solid PvE. I played WAR for about 10 days before quitting and have not read any posts since. So I was rather surprised to see how bad things were going when I checked the thread.

I can only hope for the best with Spellborn as I have been without a MMO for a while and I would like to start a new game from scratch.

From one perspective I can see why people are quick to dismiss it (WAR, AoC etc.) but considering it has a free trial at the beginning I don't understand why so few people even want to try it.

You'll no doubt find out soon enough if you don't like it.

They did something wrong. They are releasing it the same month as WOW.

Who cares when WOW is being released? TCoS is a completely different style of game. The two are mutually exclusive - TCoS lovers will find WOW too simplistic, WOW lovers will find TCoS too confusing - they're not competing for the same playerbase.

I'll give it a go after Christmas depending on response, so far i'm very happy with WAR and it seems like it's a keeper in terms of it receiving enough updates.

New players who are new to both.

PLUS, I wouldn't have minded looking in to this if it was released a few months ago, but with WOTLK I will be too busy leveling characters.

It is a little bit of a poor statement on your part to state that wow players find something to "confusing" or that TCoS players will find WoW too simple. Most of the people I know that play wow think the game is rather easy but fun.

Complexity doesn't decrease or increase the fun of the game for me, it is the content of the game (bosses, raids, story, interaction with players blah blah) that does it. Not saying this game sucks, and sure there are a lot of idiots in wow, who equip strength on mage, but I would probably guess they will be on this game too - even if in smaller numbers.
