Hi,

I have a sata psu everything on it has sata connectors, I need to add a few molex's...

Is there a mod to do this? Is it easy?

Or will it not work because of the rails?

Please clarify...

A friend of mine, snapped off the end of his sata connectors and rewired them to a molex...good or stupid?

do you really need the cables though when you can DIY and mod :), just need to know how..
 
very easy. The yellow wire is 12volts, red is 5volts and the 2 black wires are ground or negative whatever you call it but verify that the said colored cables has the correct voltage just to be on the safe side.to check the voltage put your multimeter probe (black one) to the black cable and the red probe to the red and yellow.set your multimeter to voltage setting 20volts or whatevet is higher than 12volts.

what about the orange wire ? a sata also has a orange wire? what do I do with this when connecting to a molex?

also how do I take the wires out of their socket without ruining them? and how do I put them back into the molex connector?

Finally, do I need certain specs i.e. rails on the PSU so it can handle the molex when connected?

you dont need the orange cable for the molex connection.
usually sata power cables are molded and you cannot take them off.you need to cut them off and solder it to the conrresponding molex connector.
What is this for? if it is for pumps, i suggest getting it from seperate rail from the cpu rail and make sure to check the red/yellow cable for correct voltages to be safe.

Note: make sure of the proper orientation of the molex connector as you dont want to put the yellow wire to the location of the red wire (doing this will surely blow your load especially pata devices), if you're confused compare it to molex that is connected to a psu.

i need to do it for a sata psu...there are only sata power connectors , no molex's at all...

once I replace a sata power connector with a molex I will use it to power up dvd drives and hdd's..

will it work ok?
