western digital caviar green 1TB HDDs any good?

its good. I have mine in a 390 icybox, and the idel temp when not spinning is 27c and 38c when its been copying for 30mins or so. So it should be well cool mounted internally.

I am also looking at one of these, just for storage, and would like to know if the 32MB is worth the extra price too :)

The WD Greens should be very reliable in any case.

for the 1tb drives the 32mb cache greenpower uses 333gb platters 3 of them, the 16mb cache greenpower uses 4 x 250gb platters.

333gb platters offer more speed, and less platter count = less mass for motor to rotate which = less power consumption.

Thanks for the review link - seems the 32mb is a good choice, like you say.

I was thinking of having a WD Black 1TB for Windows/apps/games/data, then auto-backup to a WD Green 1TB (maybe in a caddy), as it seems quite simple to manage and I don't really know anything about RAID. Hope the drives will be quiet too, and maybe more reliable than two Samsung F1s.

Would that be a bad idea?

edit: actually the Black doesn't look very quiet from your link so maybe a Samsung F1 1TB (main) and WD Green 1TB (backup)
