Quickest way to humanely kill a small fish ?

As title, I have a very sick neon tetra and am thinking ill put it out its misery, its swollen belly, eyes poping out its head, gasping, its been like this for a week (iv tried to treat it with medicines in a quarantine tank), but its just stayed the same, its also lost nearly all of its colour.

Want to make its death as instant as poss, the only thing I can think of without to much mess is cut its head off with a sharp knife in one quick cut

Could take a brick and squash it outside I guess, but heavy object / stick seems more suitable to large fish, this things tiny. Wanna make it have an instant death if possible.

Any other ways ?

Pick it out and clatter it over the head with something a couple times. Didn't any of you go fishing as children?

I don't know if this will work (it does on mackerels), open the mouth and bend the upper lips backwards all the way and it'll snap the neck/back of the fish. Quickest way.

I'd say chopping the head off with a cleaver nice and quick. I'd hazard a guess and say you couldn't drown it

Bit to small for that, also as odd as it sounds it looks seriously diseased so want to try and limit contact with it. Any way of humanely poisoning it ?

A long time ago I worked in a garden centre on weekends. They used to throw (hard) sick tropical fish onto the tiled floor to kill them.

I think you will find a leading polling organisation found that only 3 in 10 small fish wanted to be fired from a cannon

I would put it in a bag, run it outside and smash it with a brick.

But that's probably because I wouldn't be able to handle chopping its head off.

I have a tank with a large Knife Fish and several large Columbian Catfish. If any of the small fish from my community tank are feeling poorly I transfer them to the other tank. They don't usually last very long

Simplist way is just to bang its head against something, then do it again for good measure. It sounds a really sick fish don't prolong it any futher.

Take a swig of the vodka first if that helps
