Im pretty sure idea of warm water sitting in a dark tank for a while stagnant puts me off using the hot tap for anything that involves my mouth.
Yeah - that used to be the rule.
Don't drink or brush your teeth with water from a storage hot water system because they used to just be fed by open troughs in the roof... which had dead pigeons in them.

These days most people have instant hot water in the form of combi-boilers, so it doesn't really make any difference.

I think if you can remember the days when you weren't supposed to put the water from a hot tap in your mouth, you're showing your age.

Back in the late 50s early 60s I used to have a sunday evening treat when we used to get the tin bath out in front of the fire.

Cold, using hot water feels uncomfortable and water is mingy through hot water should only be used for washing hands with.

Cold, except when brushing in the shower.

Adding a splash of water to the toothbrush before hand makes the toothpaste foam up more and I always think my teeth don't feel clean unless there's good foamage going on :D

Err....

I'm slightly concerned that so many people would use water from the hot tap. Hot Water Tanks contain metal that can and does corrode, this is then evident in the water. You should not drink or use hot water, even in cooking (unless it's from the cold tap and then heated in a kettle etc).

cold pipes join to the main cold pipes in the street. Not a tank in the loft, usually uncovered. Unless you have an on demand boiler then it's different.

Only the kitchen tap does that, the rest is in a main rising system to the a tank in the loft is most houses.
