Looking for a new car...

I still can't believe you spent over £8k on a FIAT. I mean seriously.

You could have got a much better car for a third of the price.

I liked the Fiat, I didn't want/like a 10 year old Mondeo or 6 year old Beemer with 120k on the clock.

Maybe for my next car when I have a family and need something bigger, for now a small hatch with a nice size boot, good looks and pretty quick as well will be fine.

Maybe in 10 years and look back and think why did I do that but thats life isn't it?

Much better than spending £11k on a smaller Fiat though

Why wouldn't you want a BMW?

Not a 19 year olds car, I looked at the 1 series and BMW wouldn't even let me have a test drive. Why pay the same amount for a 5 year old rep mobile with 60k on the clock. What am I paying for? The badge? The bigger car (which I don't need)?

LOL, you just bought a really rubbish car for loads of money.

I love this forum, people who don't know about come in, ask about cars, then ignore everything that said and waste there money doing exactly what they were advised against.

A fool and there money are easily parted... that dealer took you for a complete fool, its almost criminal.

You said people were saying you'd look silly in a Mondeo.

What would they say if you rolled up in a BMW or Audi?

****.

Again I take it you've had a new Bravo first hand for a while and can comment on what it's like to own one.

I did take the advice, sure I didn't buy a Beemer or Mondeo but I didn't buy new either.

I'm not going to continue to defend my actions to people I've never met on a forum. It seems everyone on here gets told to get a Focus, Mondeo or Beemer, everything else just isn't good enough and is a crap car.

End of the day none of those cars were what I wanted.

I did ask for advice before going the dealer and no one seemed up for jumping in and offering advice yesterday.

The reason i didn't offer any advice yesterday was because i knew you were going to end up with an overpriced FIAT, no matter what anyone said. I dare say everyone else was the same.

The Focus I looked at bored me, didn't make me excited or want to buy it.

....so you bought a FIAT?

Why would I want a BMW/Audi at this age anyway?

Why wouldn't you?!

All the people saying bad stuff about Fiat, how many of you have had first hand experience with a Fiat in the last 3 years, say a car newer than 03?

I have. My mate has one and like you he dropped a HUGE amount of money on one (13k on finance whilst he is at uni ). It's not that they're bad cars. It's just that they are dwarfed by much more superior cars in your budget. I'd say the Bravo would fit into a £4000 budget (obviously when they become that cheap - ie. next year :p.)

a nice size boot, good looks and pretty quick

Oxymorons everywhere.

As for question regarding have I ever owned a Fiat to pass judgement. No, fortunately people I know have bought them and their experiences have put me off.

In all honesty you haven't bought a bad car, but for the car you have bought at a bad price.

Thats like saying "Oh we sent you to jail because we knew you wouldn't stop offending". Maybe I would, or maybe I wouldn't.

One thing Fiat can't be accused of is not having any character. Far better looking than a Focus.

Good, we've established there not bad cars. You just say there are better cars (Focus I'm assuming, as you cannot class a Mondeo as a rival), yet I wasn't impressed. Needed a 2ltr engine to get slower speeds, interior not as nice, didn't look as nice, more expensive than a Bravo. Maybe for you/other people a Focus is great, but for me it wasn't.

Oxymorons everywhere.

Would it have been a bad price if it had been up for £10k and I'd knocked £2k off? Like I said for the same sorta spec I couldn't find anything without heading 50+miles up to Watford or round the M25 for the same price or better.

Because they would be jealous of your nice car, compared to less than impressed with this FIAT you have just wasted thousands on.

Again I take it you've had a new Bravo first hand for a while and can comment on what it's like to own one.

My house mate traded in her Punto for one, so I have a fair amount experiance with Fiat

I did take the advice, sure I didn't buy a Beemer or Mondeo but I didn't buy new either.

No, you rushed out and bought one of the first you had seen at a rip off price from a used car salesman who outright lied to you. What does that say about how you can trust a car, I would be worried it wasn't accident damaged or a courtesy car just from this dishonesty alone!

I drive a Mazda and have never owned a Mondeo or Beemer... funnily enough some of the people who advised me to get the car were from here and not one recommended a BMW or Mondeo, stop crying so hard about it.

You didn't even test drive one.

I can't see the point in wasting time on this thread now. The OP is just being a fool because nobody has praised him for his purchase.

I agree, i think it is quite a good looking little car, but what you're are doing is comparing a car which you can buy for £4k with one you can buy for £10k. People only recommended Focus's because they were trying to persuade you to cut down your budget to about 4-5k, rather than spending 11k on a Punto. Nobody in this thread recommended you buy a brand new Focus, or spend 11k on one.

Good, we've established there not bad cars.

But they are in no way, shape or form the best car you could have got in your budget.

Would it have been a bad price if it had been up for £10k and I'd knocked £2k off?

Yes. You would have still spent £8k on a shopping trolley!!

Like I said for the same sorta spec I couldn't find anything without heading 50+miles up to Watford or round the M25 for the same price or better.

So you wouldn't take a day out to travel 50 miles to find a nicer car? Woah.

Thats like saying "Oh we sent you to jail because we knew you wouldn't stop offending". Maybe I would, or maybe I wouldn't.

The rate of recidivism is very high for those who have been in prison anyway; the stats speak for themselves. Just as they do in the case of threads like this.

But when all said and done, you got what you wanted in the end, it seems. By posting about it though, you have to be prepared for criticism, especially when your decision is contrary to all the advice you asked for in the first place.

I own a Fiat so I'm not against Fiat cars as a whole but that is a ridiculously high amount of money to spend and you're not getting much for it.

Is the general rule of thumb that you can return a purchase within 14days and get all your money back? If you have handed over your money now but not receiving the car for at least another 14days does this mean it will be more difficult for you to return it? I was about to say, you could always take it back, but you can't if you haven't even got it yet :D

OMFG, it is a buyers market out there and you didn't even drop him in price! I went into a Mazda dealer last week looking at an MX5 which was up for 12k and I knocked off 1k without even batting an eyelid. When I got home he phoned me and I could have got it for 10.5k. Anyway, good luck with your car because it will be worth peanuts in a year or so.
