Im really interested in getting WAR but i dont want to spend £30 to find out i dont like it, i play WoW at the moment but i just want something more, whats the quests like, do i have to pvp all the time ?

My honest opinion: Don't bother. The PvP is 'meh.' Too many obstacles so it's a melee fest all the time, scenarios, scenarios, scenarios (think battlegrounds).. takes away the reward/fun of the real RvR because no one seems tobother with it when they canjust click a button and port to an instanced fight.

Oh, and the number of players on Destruction realm vs Order realm seems to be 3:1 in favour of Destruction, too.

PVP is heavily encouraged, I do like the way they have mapped out the realms.. basically side by side, so Dwarves and Greenskins are neighbours, so sometimes looking over a hill will let you see your enemys questing etc. so rvr is always near. On 'core' you won't be able to attack them, on Open RVR you will, seems to be the only difference.

But to top it all off, the population is not great.

Wait until its on 1.2 or 1.3 before bothering (6-9 months) ... the game is a complete mess atm very little in it works and the few things that do are implemented with such little depth its not worth the time of day. Everything it feels rough, the models in particular are animated really badly and pretty much no animation syncs up with whatever is happening which gives everything just this clunky, drawl feel to it.

As it stands most of your time in the game would be spent playing scenarios (battlegrounds), WoW's are better, stick with it because WoTLK > WAR by a mile.

Couple the gameplay with the worst server running i've ever witnessed in an mmo where it seems they are intent on making sure no server has an adequate population; too many servers on launch, cloning servers when they had a soft cap on them, then raising the caps to their proper levels almost 2 months after release.

1.1 is coming soon, but with the amount wrong this needs a massive bug fix patch or two (which 1.1 and maybe 1.2 will be) then a patch to actually make the RvR fun and worthwhile, perhaps on the scale of planetside in terms of depth. All you do as the game stands is attack a door for 5 minutes, then another door for 5 minutes then zerg a keep lord for 5 minutes and there you go, the pinnacle of RvR.

Not an amazing review, but I still maintain there is a good game in this somewhere that given the above is correct could just be the greatest thing ever, so it isn't an empty "give it 6 months", but a serious give it time and it could be amazing.

I just quit wow, i just couldnt stand it any longer, its the look of the game that led me to quit, some of the nicest people ive ever met on their but the graphics even after the patches were starting to hurt my eyes lol

What? Wow how stupid, gameplay > graphics (even more so when it comes to MMO's) and WoW doesn't even look bad...

and WoW > WAR, tried WAR and other MMO's but they don't compare, the the PvP in WAR is so clunky.

Most things will be a downgrade from WoW, if your going to insist on playing an MMO why go against the grain, WoW is the most polished, well supported, best MMO there is. I tried WAR in an attempt to bury those WoW feelings but it doesn't work, WoW won.

It's very unpolished and unfinished in many aspects, but then it has only been out 2 months

Contrary to the above the PVP is a huge step up from wow when you get to 40 (max level), but not a touch on dark age of camelot

Wait until it matures a bit then join imo so you arent a paying beta tester

Dead. Seriously, there's no one about. At all. It's empty.

This was on two different med/high servers only 2 weeks after launch, so either i was really unlucky or they're lying.

If they didn't include scenarios or had a scenario disabled server, i'd definitely play again.

I lasted about 10 days. Even if the PvP elements were brilliant, which it is not, no game can survive without a solid in depth PvE.

Fantastic gameplay but one major downfall. There are too many servers with too few playing between them. I would expect things to pickup again in a few months but GOA seem to have over prepared.

If you were expecting a pve game then its no suprise you toddled off back to wow, wow does pve very good in terms of dungeons / raid content and chasing the elusive next bit of purple gear. What it has failed miserably in over the last 4 years is to promote non-instanced pvp in any meaningful manner.

Silithus/ Western Plaguelands / Outdoor pvp zones in TBC were all band aids that didnt address a major problem in the game, now i have no clue whether they have addressed this with wotlk and no desire to find out anymore.

The vast majority of war's game - the landscape, the ideolgy has been built from day 1 to promote pvp, the game is far from perfect - but the patch notes in most cases seem to make sense to the playerbase - its obvious that mythic is working on areas which need improvement and the game is becoming better in those areas. For players like myself that really do want some form of non-instanced pvp that actually has a purpose - then war currently fills that void.

The comments on servers are valid, so if you do decide to buy the game (probably not after reading this thread :D) make sure you select one of the highly populated ones.

Quite the opposite in my opinion PariaH.. unless you are a tank. Being a caster in this game is a total cluster**** in PvP. FAR too many obstacles to give even the most skilled of casters a chance. "You cannot see your target!" is something all casters will be far too familiar with..

People keep saying WAR is the much better PVP game, but the combat itself is so boring in comparison, it really is.

I'd take instanced WoW PVP over WAR anyway. (and considering how unbalanced some servers on WAR were I wouldn't be surprised if it went cross-realm like WoW)
