19 year old commits suicide live on bodybuilding.com

It happens away from the internet too

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/derbyshire/7652298.stm

makes me ashamed to say im from Derby

thats bad, i mean on the net people are *********** ... ************ but in that link people should just have ignored him like they ignore homeless people or the guys that give newspapers away...

but should everyone stop what there doing and give attention to people threatening to kill themselves? I mean i couldnt care less really, i wouldnt even stand around and watch, id just mabye think i should get a red bull or something and go to the library and get that stupid book out..

i dont understand that mental instability (wanting to suicide), and being able to not care about your life, is a very powerfull tool, you dont care the guy might have a knife or a gun, you whack him in the face and show no fear be like spartans! :D

Hasn't this happened before? I mean a few years ago... is this actually a real story?

It all seems so familiar for some reason :o

Yes this one seems to be a real story, theres a video of the police breaking in. But it's probably been taken down now.

This isn't the same thread from like yesterday is it?

I have considered joining that site in the past, its a very informative site for info in my opinion but the forum however, how can I put thisFull of ****'s;) I'm not surprised in the slightest, a bullies paradise.

Real story.

A TEENAGER has apparently committed suicide in front of a live webcam after being encouraged by people online.

19-year-old Florida resident Abraham K. Biggs, who went by the screen names "CandyJunkie" and “Mr Biggs”, told users on a bodybuilding forum he would be committing suicide that night and invited them to watch the live video.

The forum moderators allegedly ignored the post – assuming it was a prank – while other users posted insults and even egged him on.

The teen used the "lifecasting" website Justin.tv – designed to let users share the minutiae of their everyday lives – to stream footage from his bedroom.

Biggs was seen taking several pills before lying on the bed with his back to the camera.

He didn't move, and users claim they realised it was serious a few hours later when they saw he wasn't breathing. Moderators then traced Biggs's location and informed authorities.

The webcam was still streaming live footage of the teen's body as police entered the room. A laser-guided weapon was pointed at the body and an object was thrown at the bed.

Authorities then appeared on the video as they approached the teen's body, checked for a pulse, and covered up the webcam.

Your right, you can't, but you can push someone over the edge, when someone is in two minds fighting a battle inside themselves whether they should kill themselves or not then you have to be very careful what you say, you are speaking to someone that most probably lost all faith in society, that thinks no one cares, now when someone is in that situation they are balancing life and death on a 'tightrope', yes convincing that person to get on that 'tightrope' in the first place may be tricky, but you come along and tell that person that is already up there in that mental state of mind 'to kill them selves' egging them on etc then that can very easily be the wind that unbalances them, you see not really convincing them to kill themselves, but what your essentially doing is giving them the ammunition to kill themselves.

I've only quoted this one, but all of the things you've written in this thread make a lot of sense.

It's a very difficult thing to comprehend unless you have experience of it.

Video footage of the tactful police entrance is here.

I wonder if "throw random object at dead body of suicide victim before approaching bed" is in their police training manual?

I love the way the cop keeps his hand on his sidearm as he approaches the corpse. "Can't be too careful Norman, that's a BLACK MAN!!"

Indeed, they do seem like a bunch of morons.

Why have the mods not made a Sticky about the story and how they feel about it, they are just letting kids make threads to mock the whole saga.

That is truly depressing I hope none of his loved one ever see that:(.

Rubbish,

You get a call from some random guy saying some other random steroid freak has killed himself on a webcam, he's laying there unmoving.

That is NOT a visual confirmation of an injured person, so the police turn up, suspicious and exercise caution, too bloody right.

Someone also mentioned paramedics, im sure they are outside until the situation is deemed safe, but neither of us will know since they covered the camera.

It must be in your T&C to lose common sense when signing up to this forum, i just wonder if you are as moronic away from your keyboards.

Erm, you didn't think maybe that was part of the door frame after they kicked the door in/through?

Well you haven't learnt much then

You obviously haven't read what I wrote or have some major understanding problem.

I wrote - "I reckon that anybody who can be egged on are contemplating doing it anyway".

I myself was talked down several times so I know the power of words to stop a suicide however, and I will repeat again "I reckon that anybody who can be egged on are contemplating doing it anyway".

I may not have known you in real life Abraham, but we are all greatful for your many many hilarious contributions to this site. Once again I'd like to say the hearts of the misc go out to the friends and family of Abraham K. Biggs. If any of you are out there reading this I'd just like you to know this isn't your fault.

I'd like to let everyone know that it has been confirmed by someone who knows him that Candyjunkie (Abraham) did pass away. If you knew him I just wanted to let you know (hopefully I speak for everyone when I say) we're truly sorry for your loss. We may not all feel the same way about the circumstances, or how things were handled, but this community does give you its sympathy. If theres anything that can be done for you or some of candyjunkie's family feel free to post in here, if you'd like to post anonymously send me a PM and I'll post it for you.

Hopefully we can all learn from this. In the future situations like these need to be handled as real and serious no matter what. I don't care if its the 10th thread that someone has made on the same subject; if their life is in danger that should be the 10th time the police have been to their house.

We may not all agree that what Abraham did was the right thing, or a brave thing, but we can all admit its something that could have, and should have, been prevented.

Mods: I'd like to request that you filter out inappropriate responses in this thread. The last thing the people mourning this loss want to see is someone they just lost being openly mocked.
Yes, he died yesterday. Dad came home to find police here and they told him that he'd already passed. He wasn't allowed up. We don't know how long he'd been gone. Thank you for the nice things that you said about that. He really was a riot.

I hope that nobody ever has to go through something like this. It is not easy. It is very difficult to understand. However, I'll share what I've gathered so far in the hopes that maybe it will help someone else out.

He suffered from bipolarism and depression (both of which may be hereditary). They are illnesses that somehow affect the mind. There are a few theories as to how. One of which has to do with neurological signals being dull or ineffective. He didn't usually have situational "triggers". He loved his life, his friends, and his family. Despite that love and despite fear of the unknown and afterlife, he had a compulsion to die. This compulsion didn't make sense to him (as it doesn't to most people) but it was still very strong. His Highs were very high and then would swing extremely, suicidally, low for no apparent reason.

His attempts and threats were exhausting, even to me. But it's part of the illness. The only reason they were "attempts" is because he had been caught before succeeding.

This illness was like a cancer in that the neurological control that we have over our choice to live, he did not have. This illness ate away at him everyday and everynight. He saw the good in his life and the friendships and love, and battled with this insane illness as best he could, but he didn't win. He didn't just give up. It won. Even up until the end, he still tried to reach out (which is one of the few ways we know how to fight this poorly understood disease), but it won. To those that tried to fight this exhausting battle with us, we thank you. Thank you for helping to extend our time with him. We tried... so hard. I'm so sorry. But, thank you for all that you did do.

Sincerely,
Rosalind Biggs (big sister)

ps: i only signed on the explain and thank and i will put the final arrangements that we make on this site if anyone is interested. I can't respond to pms, comments, or anything else, though. Sorry

Rubbish,

You get a call from some random guy saying some other random steroid freak has killed himself on a webcam, he's laying there unmoving.

And you ALSO get access to a live video stream into his bedroom so that you can check him every minute of every hour.

"Unmoving" - wow, how intimidating! "Random steroid freak"? Was he a "steroid freak"? I've seen no evidence that he was.

That is NOT a visual confirmation of an injured person, so the police turn up, suspicious and exercise caution, too bloody right.

The stream was still running. They had the opportunity to check the previous footage and they had the opportunity to follow the live footage every minute of every hour before they kicked open the door. THAT is visual confirmation. It doesn't get much more convenient (or safe!) than this.

Did they check the footage? If so, they would have known that the guy was in a critical condition or dead, and there was no need for the Rambo faux-heroics. But if they chose not to do this, they should be sacked for stupidity.

Someone also mentioned paramedics, im sure they are outside until the situation is deemed safe, but neither of us will know since they covered the camera.

...and since we cannot be sure that they even believed the guy had attempted/committed suicide. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that paramedics were present, but I suspect not.
