did you read my post? did i say you can only get? no.
i said that you were looking at one.

a 316 compact is a car for badge snobs :]

Motors is tired of spec me threads where the user ends up doing exactly the opposite of what everyone reccomends, as they originally had decided; thus making the thread entirely pointless.

I'm bored of spec me threads fullstop! It's so boring recommending a car for 2-3k! I like the "Spec me a 20k fast car" threads. Motors has been very dull in the last week or two! Damn credit crunch.

See the thread about a guy buying a overpriced Fiat Bravo for far too much money despite him being told from all angles that it was an idiotic idea.

The OP was definately a div, but at least that was an interesting thread!

Thanks Gaygle and Fox your latest posts really will give me a hand (Motors forum this is).

I think sometimes we look at post conts, or join dates and come to a conclusion that they aren't worth the effort to give a proper reply too:(. I thnk thats a shame... ah well getting plenty of suggestions now!:)

I've never, ever judged whether a reply is worth writing based on somebodys join date. I've written ridiculously long replies before now to people with 4 posts. People only ever tend to notice the negative posts and not the many positive ones. Which is why half this forum is convinced I think anything that isn't a 5 Series is rubbish given I barely recommend them to anyone.

I'll present my case:

So here we are in "Servers and Enterprise Solutions" and a someone (clearly been around OcUK for a while posts a question about some (ooollllddd) server hardware. The guy gets a load of stick for nothing, my post is polite of course. But on average a lot of useful comments, with some nonesense thrown in.

A lot of back office people don't come fitted with the worlds best people skills. A* Technical skills but F- people skills.

You'll get some god advice (and bad! :D ) from Servers and Enterprise just don't expect it to be sugar coated or diplomatic!

In this one I reply, the guy has figured out his own problem, but I post a few tips.

Coders are normally very good at solving their own problems, normally right after asking advice. :D

This is my own post, about wanting to buy a new car. Thought I'd check with the OcUKer's about whats a decent bet. This is no different than "spec me a computer" thread in GH so why all the negativity in their posts. Whats more surprising that the really useful most was by a guy called Lam who'd just joined and had 11 posts!

Whatever you do, don't go into Motors and ask advice about buying a Vauxhall. :(

I do feel that the BMW love is a little on the contrived side but in general the Motors advice is sound, just be prepared for people to give their opinion however blunt and that advice applies to all forums here.

Why does it vary so much? Confuses me!

Try the Apple sub forums. We're all one big happy family until some PC rotter comes in and upsets the apple cart (pun intended) with some tosh about PCs costing a quid and playing something called games.

In summary these forums are like real life: full of idiots and a few rare gems, just sort the wheat from the chaff baby!!! :D :p

Lol LordSlodge! Well I'm a car n00b, biking pro, programming experienced Xbox 360 owning and apple owning whilst PC loving member perhaps I shouldn't be surprised to experience different reactions to my posts!:D Pfft I guess I should take up photography then I'd be 100% ocuk for sure!

What sort of biking?

My BMX isn't a BMX it's one of these

Soon to be traded for one one of these

Since you're a "long time member" you should know not to derail threads and take this kind of chat to msn... especially not your own!

That's just weird :p

its actually rare that bmw's are recommended. I think it says something when there are clearly a lot of posts from BMW owners yet most recommend a different car!

I am Apple owning, cycle owner and fan, opinionated old git. I fit in well here.

Don't forget a lot of people here wouldn't say boo to a ghost in real life are quite blunt here hidden behind there keyboards. :D

nothing sexy about bikes.
anyway, so you race them or something? you said your a pro biker

Nah not for a while I do race now and then, but only on sad old 400. Mainly I mean that I don't act daft and have gradually got my no claims on the bike up :) feel free to flame me with "OMFG your so not pro, my nan rode 600's and never fell off you n00b" but that'll just get you a

I wouldn't really say that was a lot of stick, I'd say that it was brutal honesty. Selling on a dual PII poweredge these days is going to be difficult. There's not really a counter arguement.

To be fair, I've read very few posts from you that have come across as remotely "friendly" - fair enough you may be offering good advice, but if you didn't word it so clinically people would probably be less inclined to have their feathers ruffled ;)

To answer the OP, each subsection has certain people that enjoy causing confusion and annoyance, just ignore them - motors unfortunately, like the console forum has more than its fair share (not you fox dont worry :D)

yeah but there's a nice way of saying it and an "OMG YOU'RE AN IDTIOT THAT'S WORTH NOTHING YOU SPOON" way of saying it. If you're kinder now god will spare 5 kittens

I struggle to see how any of the posts in that topic are offensive or unkind though, it's just stating how it is.
Sure you could sugar coat everything, but is there a need?

i think motors is one of the forums with less people that generally cause trouble.
there are a lot of informed people in there who post the same information to the same questions, which could easily be searched.
so if it seems like some people have no 'emotion' when posting something, its because it was covered 3 or 4 times in the last 2 weeks :p
