This all seems a bit of a charade, no-one is going to take you seriously now we know you're lurking!

Was there some kind of terrible event that made you abandon your old account? Did Tefal get too personal?

Without reading the motors thread it was [TW]Fox wasn't it?

No, actually, it wasn't - I posted several posts containing factual information about one of the cars he was considernig. The fact he's not even bothered to acknowledge this in his little rant goes a long way to explaining why some of the regulars in that sub forum have the attitudes they do. We give up time to compose useful posts for no gain whatsoever and we get stupid threads like this in return. After it happens three times a week, every week for 6 years most people just go straight for the 'here we go again' response.

Because people like jumping onto wagons. If the first few replies are negative, that'll attract loads of similar posters thinking "haha funny, he's cool, I can be too if I spam crap". Whereas if the first few posts are useful that'll attract the opposite kind.

That's what I think anyway.

Yeah just read that thread, don't see why he can whinge about it tbh. Few posts that are a bit crap - but hey its the internet.

Fox was acctually well behaved and gave information that you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else without a lot of research.

I think that's inaccurate. For one, my original post main it clear I didn't know anything about cars and my view was detailed. The second post asked for more details (age and milage) which I replied to with details in a prompt fashion. I then had clearly followed up posts by over viewers, one recommending a particular model of car, which (again promptly) I checked the insurance price on and re-posted. I then posted a nice response to Fox about the 3 series compact based on research I had done all afternoon, which indicated it was a reliable car. To which he replied "lol". If this was GH and someone had spent 4 hours researching a new system that would cost them 2k and I simply replied "lol" that would be out of order.

I'm not expecting the earth!

I replied 'lol' to the suggestion that BMW's were 'very reliable' - I quoted only that sentance and it was patently obvious what I meant by it.

But hey, nowt like some forum drama, so lets have a thread about it in GD!

Fox, I never make a drama out of ANYTHING, let alone a thread of mine, this thread is about the difference in response you get in certain areas of the board. In the past I've always found (and still do) GH to be full to the brim of people that are willing to give their time to answer questions about computer hardware and software. It just surprised me that as a newbie in a different area, the reaction to my post was so asymmetric to my normal experience. It's not a dig at anyone, just surprised by it

EDIT Secondly like I said, I made it CLEAR that I had no idea about cars! Your comment on BMW's might be obvious to Mr Clarkson, in the shame fashion as some on in GH saying "ha ha he wants to buy an IBM Deathstar HDD!"

And where is the excitment of just standard responses, then we wouldn't have threads like this.

In light of this thread I am prepared to offer you a full refund of any moneys paid to 'Fox Car Consultancy' in compensation for the attempt at injecting humour into the serious business of buying a cheap car.

I hope this is to your satisfaction.

Meh I just wanted some advice otherwise my dad'll buy a V70 for me and I'll have to get a matching flat cap and slippers:eek:

there was nothing wrong in that moters thread at all, other than the fact you were looking at a bottom spec terrible car for next to no money and expecting it to be reliable.
4 hours research on a compact and you come back thinking its a viable option?
having fox say 'lol' is the least of your worries, it could have went a lot worse :p

Dangerstat, reading the Motors thread again, the only "negative" post i can see in it is Captain Planets first reply. But apart from that, it just seems to be informative posts?

i'm guessing Fox's "lol" was just another way of saying "3 series compacts aren't reliable" - it's not like he's laying into you now is it?

That's an awesome amount of nonsense, did you read my OP? Which was edited after 1 posting! I clearly state that I have upto 12k to spend, so I can only get a "bottom spec terrible car" for that? Pretty surprising to me:confused:

Forums have different groups of people. Motors has a group of usuals, as do other places. It very much depends who these people are, as to how threads go.

Motors is tired of spec me threads where the user ends up doing exactly the opposite of what everyone reccomends, as they originally had decided; thus making the thread entirely pointless. See the thread about a guy buying a overpriced Fiat Bravo for far too much money despite him being told from all angles that it was an idiotic idea.
