OcUK topics - why are some friendly than others?

i think motors is one of the forums with less people that generally cause trouble.
there are a lot of informed people in there who post the same information to the same questions, which could easily be searched.
so if it seems like some people have no 'emotion' when posting something, its because it was covered 3 or 4 times in the last 2 weeks :p

To be completely fair there's a stark different to "OMF I'm 17 in a week I want a 911, spec me car"

To I'm 25 with 2k and wont something that is professional looking

Thats akin to someone posting "OMFG I need corei7 now man I have like loads of pocket money!" to "Hi, could some one spec me a high send system, something for CAD at around 2K please"

Different kettles of fish

read the recent spec me's in motors. most people have small budget and want something that looks smart.
its been done over and over and over and over and over. be it new driver at 17 with 2k budget or 30 with 2k budget. the cars do not change significantly.

I don't think it's the lack of emotion that's the problem. It's the arrogant almost petulant nature of many answers that grinds.

Not everyone has been on the forums for a million years, courtesy and politeness cost nothing. Unfortunately not everyone seems to think that.

Considering my budget ranges from 2 to 12 k I thought it might a tad

EDIT Well said by the man from Sydney and just to think I thought you all sat around drinking beer

Search takes next to no time either tbh :p
Also, he has been here since 2002 apparently..
courtesy and politeness? as others have alluded to, people post for information then give no thanks and go against every bit of good advice given. a few people might actually be bored of that :p

2-12k yet you are looking at old compacts with no spec and mk3 mondeo's. you have openly said that you have that budget because you have no idea about cars but then further into the thread its clear that you are not looking at 12k cars because you have realised there is no need.

If you really must spend 12k then say so, you will get a different range of cars being suggested.

Fox it's the same thing with a new PC surely? i dont start off thinking "I'd really like to spend 2000 on a new machine" I start off saying I'd like to spend £200. If I need to spend £2000 I would, and its the same with a car. If I can get a nice professional looking car for £2k then great, if not then I have to spend a bit more. 20k would push me hard, and in todays world, it'd need to be one NICE car to get me to spend 20k. But 2k or 12k it really doesn't matter that much, I just thought (rightly or wrongly) that would get me a decent looking car.

The confusing thing here is that yours is one of the threads I have taken quite seriously :p

Even the LOL wasn't random it was specifically aimed at a concept you raised.

And I appriciate that Fox, just "lol" didn't really help me at all, you could have posted comments on why the 316i isn't a good car, just like I would post how at the moment most Intel chips are better than AMD ones. It only takes a second fella

There are a few factors in this.

Firstly, the attitude of the OP and their ability to set up a decent opening post with proper structure and readable text.

Secondly the first few responses are key to how the thread will usually pan out. Yes, one post later on can divert a thread easily but the mood of the first couple of respondees is important.

I know that if I respond negatively as the first poster in a thread that hasn't been started very well by the OP the thread is not going to go well. That's partly because there are some sheep around here too though.

In fairness to myself, within two posts all the key details to advise me where in the thread, age, milage, that I'd like etc.. all I aksed for was some help.

Why are you telling me this? I had agreed with you

You got loads of help in your thread.

I wasn't talking about your thread specifically, I thought you were asking in general with some examples. I was talking about every thread. With a decent OP and a decent first couple of responses the thread is likely to go well.

Can we all kiss and make up?

Damn it Pilky I am NOT having ago at Fox or anyone, I was rasing the different approaches to topics in each area of OcUK. Fox has been a star and given me some sound pointers since this. It's just a general debate is it even between the forum areas?:)

P.S you have a shiny head:p sorry

Sorry Fox, I guess I felt a bit screwed with the early replies to my posting, as I'm neither a time waster or someone looking to ignore your (or anyones) advice.
